Informal Institutions And Exclusion In Democratic Nepal, Mahendra Lawoti Jun 2010

Informal Institutions And Exclusion In Democratic Nepal, Mahendra Lawoti

"Virtuous Beings": The Concept Of Tha Damtshig And Being A Moral Person In Contemporary Bhutanese Society, Richard Whitecross

HIMALAYA, the Journal of the Association for Nepal and Himalayan Studies

After a brief discussion of Buddhist doctrines that shape the concept of tha damtshig, the paper considers how the concept shapes everyday understandings of moral values and conduct, its transmission and more recently the subtle political use of it to define loyalty to the state.
