Alcohol Treatment Issues: Professional Differences., Stella Y. Hshieh
Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)
The current practice of alcohol treatment in many agencies implies the distinction between addiction treatment and mental health treatment. This study attempted to investigate how the psychologists and addiction counselors might possess different philosophies and treatment approaches. It also attempted to examine how the differences might affect linkages across service system boundaries. Subjects were professionals who were actively involved in the treatment of problem drinking. Samples were selected from psychologists affiliated with the American Psychological Association (APA) and alcoholism counselors affiliated with the National Association of Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors (NAADAC). A survey questionnaire was sent to each subject, …

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)
This study examined sixteen basic writers in a college developmental English program to ascertain what effect collaborative learning strategies would have on the writing apprehension, writing anxiety, and writing quality. Students operated in a collaborative environment: They followed a writing process and arrived at consensus within their group at each stage of writing. All writers still worried about their writing, but they collectively agreed that they spent more time on writing and rewriting. In short, writers had a vision of what they were expected to accomplish and demonstrated that writing was a powerful tool. This study encourages students and faculty …
A Narratological Reading Emphasizing The Narrator/Narratee Relationships In Mary Shelley's "Frankenstein", Charles Robert Maturin's "Melmoth The Wanderer", And J. Sheridan Le Fanu's "Carmilla"., Marion Carol Zwickel
A Narratological Reading Emphasizing The Narrator/Narratee Relationships In Mary Shelley's "Frankenstein", Charles Robert Maturin's "Melmoth The Wanderer", And J. Sheridan Le Fanu's "Carmilla"., Marion Carol Zwickel
Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)
The focus of this study is a narratological reading emphasizing the narrator/narratee relationships in three highly mediated, nineteenth century, English Gothic novels: Mary Shelley's Frankenstein (1817); Charles Robert Maturin's Melmoth the Wanderer (1820); and, J. Sheridan Le Fanu's Carmilla (1872). A narratological reading depicts how the form of these novels illuminates their content to demonstrate that these Gothic stories do have redeeming literary merits and are not just popular fiction. The introduction discusses Gerald Prince's theory of narrator/narratee relationships which he explicates in his article "The Introduction to the Study of the Narratee" (Poetique 1973). Next, the introduction explains the …

Interpretation Of Data From A Horizontal Heat Transfer Tube In A Bubbling Fluidized Bed., Ali Ihsan Karamavruc
Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)
Prior calculations of heat transfer coefficients for an experimental horizontal tube in a bubbling fluidized bed have assumed that the heat conduction through the tube wall is one dimensional. However, a comparison between one dimensional (1D) and two dimensional (2D) analyses and comparing them with experimental data shows that there exists a significant difference between 1D and 2D calculations. The analysis was accomplished by solving the unsteady 1D and 2D heat conduction equation across the tube wall numerically. The boundary conditions were taken from the temperature data measured at five different locations around the horizontal tube simultaneously. A correction factor …
