Multicultural Counseling Competencies, White Racial Identity Development, And Color-Blind Racial Attitudes: Differences Across Mental Health Sub-Disciplines., Jacquelyn Monique Strait

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)

Multicultural counseling education in graduate programs is an essential component of clinical training. The exploration of racial identity attitudes and color-blind racial attitudes are starting to become increasingly integrated into multicultural training. The sub-fields of counseling, counseling psychology, and clinical psychology programs have different histories and unique professional identities that set them apart from one another. Limited research exists that explores whether multicultural training differs according to type of graduate training program. The current study examined differences in self-reported multicultural competencies, racial identity development, and color-blind racial attitudes across mental health sub-disciplines. Social desirability was used as a control measure. …

Examining The First-Year Three-Contact-Hour Seminar: Implications For Faculty Development., Melanie Baker Rogers

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)

Calls for reform in higher education have required many colleges and universities to redesign their undergraduate curricula. This decision was based on national reports that pointed out college graduates did not possess the academic and critical thinking skills needed to be successful in college and beyond. In conjunction with this curricular reform, was the need for a paradigm shift from instruction to learning, which required instructors to utilize teaching and learning strategies that actively involved undergraduate students in the learning process and would elicit the academic and critical thinking skills undergraduate students need to be successful. An Integrated Cost Model For Software Reuse., Senta Fowler Chmiel Jan 2000

An Integrated Cost Model For Software Reuse., Senta Fowler Chmiel

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)

Several cost models have been proposed and assessed in the past for predicting and analyzing the costs associated with software reuse. The integrated cost model, which is presented in this thesis, is based on the premise that there are four decisions in the software reuse lifecycle: the decision to adopt a reuse-based software paradigm; the decision to initiate a domain engineering initiative; the decision to use reusable assets in the development of a given application; and the decision to develop reusable assets. The integrated cost model further considers that all these decisions must be justified by an economic rationale, and …

Stress, Social Support, And Burnout In Nursing Home Staff., Lynn Marie Northrop Jan 1996

Stress, Social Support, And Burnout In Nursing Home Staff., Lynn Marie Northrop

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)

Burnout represents a danger to the mental and physical health of human-service workers. Burnout often diminishes the quality and efficiency of service provided by workers and thus represents a danger to service recipients and a cost to employers. Repeated studies suggest that workers who report higher levels of job stress and lower levels of social support are more likely to report higher levels of burnout. Nursing home staff are subject to considerable occupational stress and report high levels of burnout. The extant literature does not address the relations between stress, support, and burnout in these workers. In the present study …
