The Effects Of Studying French Culture On The Attitude And The Language Skills Of French Ii Students., Dwayne Lee Demedio Jan 1975

The Effects Of Studying French Culture On The Attitude And The Language Skills Of French Ii Students., Dwayne Lee Demedio

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)

This investigation was designed to determine the effects of studying French culture on the attitude toward French and the language skills of French II students. This study tested the hypotheses (ten) that studying French in a special instructional program based upon four designated elements of French culture (sports, the French people and family, education and French youth) would not affect the attitude toward French and the language skills (listening, speaking, reading, and writing) of French II students.

Petrology And Stratigraphy Of The Berea Sandstone In The Cabin Creek And Gay-Fink Trends, West Virginia., Richard Edwin Larese Jan 1974

Petrology And Stratigraphy Of The Berea Sandstone In The Cabin Creek And Gay-Fink Trends, West Virginia., Richard Edwin Larese

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)

The Berea Sanstone consists of marine and non-marine facies in west-central West Virginia. The Cabin Creek and Gay-Fink trends represent alluvial channel fill depositis. They are parallel to the westward dipping regional slope and are oriented 65-70 degrees to the depositional strike (north-south) of the sheetsand facies.

An Economic History Of Southwestern Pennsylvania, 1850-1860., Thomas Peter Pavick Jan 1973

An Economic History Of Southwestern Pennsylvania, 1850-1860., Thomas Peter Pavick

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)

The growth of manufacturing in Pittsburgh, and the growth of specific industries, cotton, iron, and glass, for example, have received some attention, but the basic economic developments in southwestern Pennsylvania as a whole have not received the same attention. Yet, in 1850 and 1860 over sixty percent of the population lived outside of the urban area around Pittsburgh. While manufacturing continued to grow, most rapidly in the Pittsburgh area, the people of the region as a whole had to deal with transportation, agricultural, labor, and monetary problems. This study is an attempt to examine the basic influences and trends in …

Petrology And Stratigraphy Of The Greenbrier Limestone And Upper Pocono Sandstones, Wayne And Lincoln Counties, West Virginia., Bernard Robert Henniger Jan 1972

Petrology And Stratigraphy Of The Greenbrier Limestone And Upper Pocono Sandstones, Wayne And Lincoln Counties, West Virginia., Bernard Robert Henniger

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)

A petrographic and stratigraphic study of the Middle Mississippian Greenbrier Group ("Big Lime") and associated units of southwestern West Virginia was undertaken by using 879 thin sections from 15 wells, 633 drillers' logs, and 66 mechanical logs. The "Big Lime" of southwestern West Virginia was deposited in a shallow- shelf, shoaling environment following slow transgression of the subtropical Greenbrier seas over a Pocono-Maccrady, deltaic-tidalflat complex. Regressive-transgressive fluctuations caused shoaling during lower to middle Union time, producing halo and crestal type oolite accumulations over Maccrady topographic highs. Biosparites were intimately associated with the shoal areas. Deepening of waters upon continued transgression …

Sulfur And Ash Distribution Of Pittsburgh Coal, Mathies Mine, Pennsylvania: Evaluation Of Paleotopographic Control., Greg Edward Eddy Jan 1971

Sulfur And Ash Distribution Of Pittsburgh Coal, Mathies Mine, Pennsylvania: Evaluation Of Paleotopographic Control., Greg Edward Eddy

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)

An 11 square mile block of the Pittsburgh Coal of relatively uniform thickness, ash content, sulfur contenet and roof rock was studied in detail in Southwestern Pennsylvania. The objective of this study was to determine the variability and patterns of variability in coal thickness, ash content and sulbur content and to determine the relationship between these patterns and the paleotopography of the original surface of the coal swamp. Linear correlations between these variables were statistically evaluated.

Sporological Evidence On The Geological Age Of The Dunkard Strata In The Appalachian Basin., John Albert Clendening Jan 1970

Sporological Evidence On The Geological Age Of The Dunkard Strata In The Appalachian Basin., John Albert Clendening

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)

The primary purpose of the present study has been to establish palynological evidence on the geological age of the Dunkard strata, a subject of debate for at least 90 years. During this time the popular inclination has been to accept the age as Permian without serious question. The present study of fossil spores and pollen substantiates an Upper Pennsylvanian rather than a Permian age for the entire sequence of strata called the Dunkard Group.

Anxiety Control As A Function Of Instructional Modifications In Paired-Associate Learning., Jean Beverly Peltonen Jan 1969

Anxiety Control As A Function Of Instructional Modifications In Paired-Associate Learning., Jean Beverly Peltonen

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)

The purpose of this study is to test the anxietyinhibiting effects of two modifications in traditional instructions for paired-associate learning. It will be assumed that effective anxiety-inhibition will be evidenced by a significant decline in the number of trials required for subjects to arrive at a common learning criterion. Tha two instructional modifications to be tested ara specifically: (1) Requiring subjects to delay responding aloud for an established number of list presentations (as opposed to permitting immediate responses), and (2) Informing subjects that capable individuals frequently experience considerable frustration before mastering the task with which they will be presented.

Geology Of The Southern Half Of The Millerstown, Pennsylvania 15 Minute Topographic Quadrangle, George Calvert Robinson Jan 1957

Geology Of The Southern Half Of The Millerstown, Pennsylvania 15 Minute Topographic Quadrangle, George Calvert Robinson

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)

A detailed investigation of the geology of the southern one-half of the Millerstown, Pennsylvania 15 Minute Topographic Quandrangle was conducted during 1956-1957. This report of the work contains a description of the Silurian, Devonian, and Mississippian formations which crop out in the area. The complex folding and faulting of the sediments is outlined in a section on structural geology. A number of anticlines and synclines, not previously mapped, are described.

A geologic map and two structural cross sections with a scale of 1:24000 are included to illustrate the features described. This is the first geologic map of the area on …

Petrology Of The Upper Marietta And Hundred Sandstones In Southeastern Ohio, Wayne Dudley Martin Jan 1948

Petrology Of The Upper Marietta And Hundred Sandstones In Southeastern Ohio, Wayne Dudley Martin

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)

A petrographic study was made of two Lower Permian (Dunkard Series) sandstones in southeastern Ohio. The sandstone members with which the investigation was concerned are the Upper Marietta sandstone and the Hundred sandstone. The study was made in order to determine the origin of the sandstones and the practicability of applying geologic methods to the grindstone industry. The results of the study indicate that although some of the constituents of these sandstones were derived from igneous and sedimentary source rocks, a relatively large amount of material was derived from metamorphic rocks. The detritus was transported from the east and deposited …
