Behavioral Parameters Of Drug Action: Signalled And Response‐Independent Reinforcement, Donald M. Thompson, Peter B. Corr

Four pigeons were initially trained under a multiple variable‐interval 1‐min variable‐interval 1‐min schedule of food reinforcement. For two of the pigeons, a signal was then presented whenever the reinforcer was available in one component; this resulted in positive contrast. For the other two pigeons, the reinforcer was presented independently of responding on a variable‐time schedule in one component; this resulted in negative induction. After 30 to 50 sessions, however, a similar degree of differential responding occurred under both multiple schedules, i.e., high rates in the variable‐interval component and low rates in the other component. Season of calving had important effects on the shape of the lactation curve, affecting peak milk yield, persistency, and lactation lengths in a Louisiana Holstein herd. Feeding regime and age at calving also had marked effects. Plane of nutrition appeared to have more important effects on components of the lactation curve than did season of calving. Most interaction effects were small. Lactation milk yield for Holstein cows in five Louisiana herds calving in the hot season of the year was consistently from 200 to 300 kg (5 to 8%) less than that for cows calving during cool and mild seasons. …

Identification Of Tasks In Home Economics Related Occupations: Clothing; Apparel; And Textile Services, Billie Lou Sands, Dorothy Lee Clausen

The study of task identification in clothing; apparel; and textile services presents statistical correlations of task frequencies obtained by questionnaire in six task clusters for the occupations of fabric specialist; tailor; alternation specialist; dry cleaner; launderer; and clothing apparel and textile service occupations. One-way matrices present; for each occupation; task clusters and tasks within each cluster arranged vertically in descending order of overall mean frequency of performance. A two-way matrix correlates task information for all six occupations; with occupations arranged horizontally and task clusters and individual tasks within each cluster arranged vertically in descending order of commonality of performance as …

Kibigaku: An Analysis Of A Modern Japanese Ritual Music, Larry V. Shumway

Kibigaku is the name given to a musical tradition which arose in western Japan during the early years of the Meiji period (1867-1912). It was created by a Gagaku musician of the recently abolished Ikeda fief at Okayama, Yoshihide Kishimoto, who sought to blend elements of the Imperial Court music with those of more popular genres to create a new form of music which would be appropriate for a modernized Japan. Inherent in his thinking was the idea that while Gagaku was the only music having the power to fully evoke and express the Japanese spirit, it was too austere …

The results of a shell model calculation for 25Mg-25Al are presented in which the Hamiltonian for the system was taken to be that of an inert 16O core plus nine s-d shell particles interacting through the usual one-body l2 and l · s terms plus general two-body residual interactions of the Kuo-Brown type. The basis was truncated to include nine favored representations of SU(3) in each of the two leading spatial symmetries ([441]: (66), (93), (74), (82)2, (55)2, (28), (90); [432]: (10,1), (74), (82)2, (55)2, (28), (47), (90)). Proposal: Pioneer Venus Orbiter Mission Magnetic Field Investigation, Edward J. Smith, Leverett Davis Jr., Douglas E. Jones, Bruce T. Tsurutani

The magnetic field investigation on the Venus Orbiter Mission must provide sensitive, accurate measurements of the magnetic field at all locations along the spacecraft orbit. In addition to being able to search for and measure any weak global magnetic field that may exist, the magnetometer must have the capability of measuring fields at frequencies high enough to permit a comprehensive study of the bow shock, the region between the shock and the ionopause, the expansion fan and the wake. Accurate measurements outside the interaction region must be made in order to provide necessary information concerning the configuration of the perturbing …
