Spectral Distributions And The Breaking Of Isospin And Supermultiplet Symmetries In Nuclei, K. T. Hecht, J. P. Draayer

Knowledge of the Racah algebra for the higher unitary groups is exploited to give a general formula for the partial widths for the direct product subgroup U( N k)× U(k) of the full unitary group U(N) of a given shell model vector space. This formula makes it possible to separate the second moments of dynamical operators into the internal and external parts which are needed for detailed applications of the spectral distribution technique. Specific applications are made for k = 2 (isospin) and k = 4 (Wigner supermultiplet symmetry). Explicit expressions are given for the isospin breaking contributions to the …

In the recent Rodman case, the Tax Court has held that a partner newly admitted near year-end must report his share of the full year's partnership profits. Messrs. Lee and Parker analyze the status of retroactive partnership allocations in view of Rodman, the first decision to expressly sanction retroactive allocations of income (and implicitly of losses) to new partners, and reallocations under Section 704.

Evaluation Of Some Carbamate And Phosphate Insecticides Against Southern Pine Beetle And Ips Bark Beetles, Jack E. Coster, I. R. Ragenovich

Six insecticides were tested on southern pine beetle, Dendroclonus frontalis Zimmerman, to determine effects on established brood and ability to prevent attacks of Ips engraver beetles. The insecticides were: lindane as a reference; 2 carbamate insecticides, propoxur and carbaryl; and 3 organophosphates, acephate, phosmet, and diazinon. Only lindane significantly reduced established southern pine beetle broods. Phosmet caused high mortality of adult beetles within 24 hours after emergence from treated pines. Lindane, propoxur, and carbaryl were effective in preventing Ips grandicollis Eichoff and I. calligraphus Germar attacks on loblolly pine logs.

Anatomical modifications in protective layers and stomatal characteristics of needles which would have moisture conserving effects were found in 2-yr-old seedlings of 1oblolly pines of the Bastrop County, Texas, provenance. Most of these modifications were absent from needles of 16-yr-old trees of the same provenance. Forest Sci. 20:88-90.

In the products liability area the pendulum has now swung back to the imposition of strict liability. This transition, beginning with the elimination of the privity requirement in negligence actions, continuing with the imposition of strict liability under a warranty theory, and culminating in the development of a tort theory of recovery in strict liability, has been well-documented.

Groundwater Pollution: Case Law Theories For Relief, Peter N. Davis

This article will describe how the courts have utilized the common law to deal with the groundwater pollution problem. I have attempted to examine every groundwater pollution case reported in the United States, England, Ireland, Scotland, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.10 All of them, a total of 203, are listed in the Appendices. The purpose of this article is to analyze those cases to determine what rule the courts tend to use in particular kinds of groundwater pollution cases.
