Thawing Optimums For Bovine Spermatozoa Processed By Three Methods And Packaged In Continental And French Straws, J. E. Chandler, R. W. Adkinson, R. L. Nebel

A modified two-dimensional central composite rotatable design was used to study the effect of thaw bath temperature and time on acrosomal integrity in Continental (.3 ml) and French (.5 ml) straws. Ejaculates from 18 bulls were packaged in both containers. Semen from 6 of the 18 bulls was processed by each of three methods: 6 bulls for egg yolk- Tris-glycerol, 6 bulls for egg yolk-citrate-glycerol, and 6 bulls for skim milk- glycerol. Thaw bath temperatures ranged from 18 to 92° C, and thaw times ranged from 4.5 to 50 s. Interaction of thaw bath temperature with thaw time was detected …

Cenozoic Tectonic History Of The Sierra De Perija, Venezuela- Colombia, And Adjacent Basins, James N. Kellogg

The four major Cenozoic tectonic phases in the Sierra de Perija and adjacent basins are the early Eocene tectonic phase, the middle Eocene Caribbean orogeny, the late Oligocene phase, and the late Miocene to present Andean orogeny. Ages of unconformities associated with particularly rapid regional uplift during these phases are early Eocene (53 m.y.), middle Eocene (45 m.y.), late Oligocene (25 m.y.), and Pliocene (3 m.y.). Northwest-southeast compression may have commenced in the Perija and the Maracaibo Basin as early as the early Eocene. A model presented previously by one of the authors (1,2) is reviewed and extended. Aspects of this model which were not previously available in the open literature are considered, and the model is extended to include previously neglected terms in the governing differential equations, fractional reaction orders in the current density-overpotential expression, and mass-transfer coefficients to account for mass-transfer resistance of the reactants to the faces of the porous electrode. The model is used to predict quantities of interest for oxygen reduction in an acidic aqueous solution in a porous carbon electrode.

In Illinois Brick Co. v. Illinois, the United States Supreme Court held that in price-fixing actions brought under section 1 of the Sherman Act, only first purchasers in the chain of vertical distribution are "injured," within the meaning of section 4 of the Clayton Act, by the full amount of any overcharge. The Court's ruling bars plaintiffs who are "indirect purchasers" from offering proof that they have been injured by defendants' illegal overcharges which have been "passed on" to them by middlemen. A Probabilistic Approach To The Spatial Assessment Of River Channel Instability, William L. Graf

The deterministic approach to the analysis of river channel instability has not proved to be a completely useful basis for geographic predictions of channel behavior. Economic estimates for benefits of structural channel control projects commonly account for flood inundation, but in arid and semiarid regions these estimates are incomplete because they fail to take into account destructive channel migration and erosion. As a solution, a method whereby historical records of channel locations are reduced to spatially defined probabilistic functions allows calculation of the probability that given parcels of near-channel terrain will be destroyed by erosion. This Note examines Zinn v. State, a Wisconsin Supreme Court decision, which held that plaintiff stated a claim for inverse condemnation against the State of Wisconsin when, as a result of an erroneous quasi-judicial decision by the DNR, plaintiff lost the use of her property for a little longer than a month. This Note takes the position that Zinn represents the growing tendency among courts to enlarge the scope of fact situations in which they will find a taking.
