Extending Revised Lewis Gear Root Bending Stress Model To Addendum Modified Cylindrical Gears, Edward E. Osakue

This paper presents a new revised Lewis gear bending root stress model for both standard profile and profile-shifted cylindrical gears. The three parameters that are used to extend the root bending stress capacity of standard profile gears to profile-shifted gears are the profile shift radius factor, the profile shift load factor, and the modified Lewis stress factor. These three parameters are functions of the profile shift factor. The new bending capacity model is used to estimate the bending stresses for some standard profile gears with nominal helix angles between 0o to 41.41o and compared with estimates of AGMA model. A reversed Lewis root bending stress capacity model for bevel gears is presented. The model is developed from first principle based on the Tredgold’s approximation of a bevel gear. The approximation conceptually transforms a bevel gear into a spur gear. The load distribution of the bevel gear facewidth is assumed to be triangular so that the stress at the gear is constant over the facewidth. Background: Longitudinal measures of viral load (VL) are critical in monitoring the HIV status. While multiple lab indicators exist for monitoring measures of VL, research on clustering historical/longitudinal VL measures is limited. Analyzing longitudinal VL patterns rather than aggregated measures offers deeper insights into HIV status. This study uses functional data clustering to classify longitudinal VL patterns and characterize each cluster by demographics, comorbidities, social behaviors, and CD4 count.

Background: Racial disparities have historically existed regarding HIV care outcomes, including linkage to care. This study aims to explore the contribution of contextual features (e.g., socioeconomic and structural environmental factors) to the temporal change of county-level racial disparities in linkage to care.

Methods: This is a statewide population-based retrospective cohort study. The patient-level variables in the South Carolina HIV registry system were used to calculate the aggregated county-level linkage to care percentage. Background: In South Africa, there is no centralized HIV surveillance system where key populations (KPs) data, including gay men and other men who have sex with men, female sex workers, transgender persons, people who use drugs, and incarcerated persons, are stored in South Africa despite being on higher risk of HIV acquisition and transmission than the general population. Routinely monitoring viral rebound (VR) is important in the life course of people with HIV (PWH). This study examined risk factors for time to the first VR, the number of VRs and their association with VR history in men who have sex with men (MSM). It includes 8176 adult PWH diagnosed from January 2005 to December 2018, followed until July 2021. We used the Cox model for time to the first VR, the Poisson model for a number of VRs, and logistic regression for VR history in MSM. Background: Demands of caregivers of persons living with dementia (PLWD) are often influenced by the context of their caregiving situation. This study examines common and unique factors associated with caregiving burden in terms of task time and task difficulty among paid and unpaid caregivers of PLWD. Background and aims: In the United States (US), Tobacco 21 (T21) laws set the minimum legal sale age for all tobacco products to 21 years. This study aimed to examine whether e-cigarette-inclusive T21 laws were associated with e-cigarette use behaviors and related disparities among US adolescents. Design: We used nationally representative, repeated cross-sectional Monitoring the Future data to compare self-reported current e-cigarette use (2014–2022) and first e-cigarette initiation (2015–2022) among adolescents in counties with 100% ('full') versus < 100% ('partial or no') e-cigarette-inclusive T21 law population coverage using modified Poisson regression, examining differences by sex, race and ethnicity, parental educational attainment and college educational expectations through interactions. Background: COVID-19 continues to pose a major global health challenge. Despite its geographic distance from Brazil’s major urban centers, Acre state has experienced notable outbreaks. This study assessed the detection and persistence of SARS-CoV-2 in the rural settlement of Santa Luzia, located in the remote municipality of Cruzeiro do Sul, Acre state, Brazil. Methods: In July 2022, a cross-sectional survey was conducted at 40 sites from an ongoing environmental study, selected by deforestation patterns and proximity to health posts. CubeSats experience significant thermal loads due to solar irradiation and the dissipation from electrical components. The high heat dissipation per unit volume can lead to mission failure if not properly managed. Deployable radiators that are externally stowed and passively actuated in response to changes in CubeSat temperature have been explored as a viable solution. This work describes a radially deployed fin array that is stowed within the CubeSat body when the required heat dissipation is low and passively deploys when the required heat dissipation is high. The mill behavior of a 312 Combustion Engineering Raymond Bowl Mill was studied with five blends of Utah bituminous coal and steam-exploded woody biomass, ranging from 100 % coal to 100 % biomass. Mill power consumption increased with biomass content, peaking at 187 % of the power required for 100 % coal before the mill faulted at 100 % biomass. After repositioning the rollers, power consumption for 100 % biomass decreased by 13 % compared to 100 % coal. SEM images revealed that milled biomass particles were non-spherical, indicating some fibrous structure remained post steam-explosion. The particle size distribution (PSD) …

Convertible virtual currency is increasingly equated with the notion of real currency. Indeed, the increased acceptance of virtual currency as a payment method among retailers and consumers, the evolution of new types of virtual currency that alleviate price volatility, and the recent expansion of foreign country initiatives confirm the strong trajectory toward virtual currency’s function as a transactional currency. Purpose – Browsing library resources is a method long used by researchers to expand their understanding of ill-defined projects and to have serendipitous research discoveries. This study sought to understand the browsing activities of students in an academic library. Design/methodology/approach – The study used two methods. First, a link to an online survey was posted on posters throughout the library inviting students to share their browsing experience. Data reveal that the physical effects of trauma exposure increasingly surface in business, social, and other settings. Exposure to trauma at any point in life can cause employee health concerns, yet many firms do not acknowledge or address this. Herein, we combine trauma theory with human capital theory to explain how manifestations of trauma exposure—hyperarousal, intrusion, and constriction—impact employee health and performance. This article outlines how each manifestation affects human capital deployment, and thus employee performance. The Marginal Value Of Public Pension Wealth: Evidence From Border House Prices, Darren Aiello, Asaf Bernstein, Mahyar Kargar, Ryan Lewis, Michael Schwert

We study how state pension windfalls affect property prices near state borders, where theory suggests real estate reflects the value of additional public resources. Windfalls, representing a source of state revenue about half the size of total taxes, provide economically significant and plausibly exogenous variation in fiscal conditions. We find that each dollar of pension asset returns increases border house prices by approximately two dollars, suggesting that governments allocate additional funds towards high-value projects or tax abatement rather than wasting incremental resources. Evidence of larger effects in financially constrained municipalities highlights how fiscal resources amplify welfare effects of economic shocks.

Blown lift and distributed electric propulsion aircraft pose strong aeropropulsive coupling effects that cannot be ignored during the early stages of design. In this study, we develop an advanced actuator disk model (ADM) for aeropropulsive coupling effects of ducted fans with the vortex particle method (VPM). The advanced ADM consists of (1) an actuator disk at the rotor plane, (2) a surface vortex sheet modeling the mixing and convection of blade tip vorticity along walls, and (3) a powered wake at the exhaust. Data literacy is essential in today’s workplace, and professionals across roles and experience levels recognize its value. This article reports on findings from interviews with 16 supply chain and logistics professionals. The study examines how seven proposed data literacy competencies align with workplace needs, how employees address the data literacy gap, and how librarians can support workforce readiness. Findings highlight opportunities for libraries to bridge the data literacy gap through instruction and resources development that integrate technical and non-technical data skills with information literacy.

We conducted a population-based survey of food shopping attitudes and habits to inform decision-making about ways to expand market access for New England’s food producers; these findings can be generalized to the adult population of New England. Our research shows that more than half of New Englanders say farm stores or stands, farmers’ markets and retail stores are easily available to them, but they only shop occasionally at these places, indicating other barriers may limit participation. We conducted a population-based survey of food shopping attitudes and habits to inform efforts to expand market access for New England farms. Our findings can be generalized to the adult population of New England. This research brief shares insights from our survey question asking respondents to indicate how important a series of food attributes are to their everyday food purchasing decisions (response options included “not important”, “neutral”, or “important”). Our findings show that over 70% of New Englanders say food that they like, is "tasty," "high quality" and "healthy" are important to them. The majority (78%) of New Englanders say …

Marketing is a necessary function of academic libraries but is frequently deprioritized in library job descriptions and organizational structures. This article serves as a case study of how one library worked to formalize marketing efforts by moving from ad hoc committee-based work to structured positions guided by an organizational marketing plan.
