Effect Of Seasonal Changes In Leydig Cell Number On The Volume Of Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum In Leydig Cells And Intratesticular Testosterone Content In Stallions, L. Johnson, D. L. Thompson

Testes from 47 adult (4-20 years) stallions obtained in November-January (non-breeding season) and 41 adult stallions obtained in May-July (breeding season) were perfused with glutaraldehyde, placed in osmium and embedded in Epon 812. Percentage Leydig cell cytoplasm or nuclei in the testis was determined by point counting of 0.5 μm sections under bright-field microscopy. Testes from 6 randomly selected horses per season were processed for electron microscopy. The volume (ml) of SER/testis was calculated from the % SER in the cytoplasm % Leydig cell cytoplasm, and parenchymal volume. Number of Leydig cells was calculated from the % nuclei, parenchymal volume, …
The Scope Of Liability Under Section 12 Of The Federal Securities Act Of 1933: 'Participation' And The Pertinent Legislative Materials, Douglas E. Abrams
The Scope Of Liability Under Section 12 Of The Federal Securities Act Of 1933: 'Participation' And The Pertinent Legislative Materials, Douglas E. Abrams

Section 12 of the Securities Act of 1933 creates two private rights of action, each providing in relevant part that ‘ a ny person who offers or sells a security . . . shall be liable to the person purchasing such security from him . . ..’ Because suit may be maintained only by the person who purchases the security from defendant, an offeror may incur section 12 liability only if the offeror also ‘sells' the security to the plaintiff. Section 12(1) imposes liability on any seller whose offer or sale violates the Act's registration or prospectus requirements found in …

Social Investing And The Lessons Of South Africa Divestment: Rethinking The Limitations On Fiduciary Discretion, Robert H. Jerry Ii, O. Maurice Joy

Part I of this Article defines social investing and briefly reviews the South Africa divestment movement which has brought questions about the legality of social investing to the fore. Part II comments upon existing statutory and common law limitations on the discretion of trustee-investors to adopt policies of social investing. Part III analyzes the empirical research on the extent to which preclusion of a set of investment opportunities may impair the performance of a typical trustee-investor's portfolio, both with respect to rate of return and risk. Part IV explores the implications of the empirical evidence analyzed in Part III for …

Proton NMR has revealed two modes of structural heterogeneity in the monomeric hemoglobin I of Chironomus thummi thummi, CTT I; rotational disorder caused by a 180° rotation of the heme about the α, γ‐meso axis (primary heterogeneity), which varies for each preparation or reconstitution of this hemogobin, and a ‘silent’ amino acid replacement [Thr/Ala exchange in position 98(FG4)] in the vicinity of the heme group, which is invariant under all experimental conditions. The heme rotational disorder (primary heterogeneity) can be removed by reconstitution of CTT I with the symmetrical protoheme III. The secondary splitting is not affected; the ratio of …

Imagine the following scenario: buyer, a typical consumer wishing to obtain goods or services, visits seller. Anxious to close the deal, seller impresses buyer with oral representations and promises concerning the goods or services. Buyer, enticed into making the purchase, signs a preprinted form contract, failing either to notice or understand this deceptively harmless looking provision: "This writing is the final and entire agreement of the parties and there are no other representations, promises, warranties or agreements of any kind." Buyer later discovers that the goods or services do not live up to seller's representations and promises. Angry, buyer sues …

Because attaining citizenship skills remains the principal goal of social studies; this unit was designed to highlight the founding of the U.S. Constitution and the Bill of Rights in a manner appropriate to both primary and intermediate elementary children. Each lesson includes objectives; materials; and procedures; as well as supplementary materials which may be duplicated for student use. Student awareness of the need for rules and laws is developed through the activities in lesson one. Lesson two helps students recognize reasons for settling the original 13 colonies and identify their locations. Students become informed about the events leading to independence …
Justice Scalia: Standing, Environmental Law And The Supreme Court, Michael A. Perino
Justice Scalia: Standing, Environmental Law And The Supreme Court, Michael A. Perino
Faculty Publications
President Reagan's appointment of Antonin Scalia to the United States Supreme Court raises concern among liberals that Justice Scalia will help lead the Court away from a number of liberal positions toward a new conservatism. The Reagan Administration's requirement that judicial appointments advance the Administration's preference for judicial restraint and strict constructionism enhances this concern. These new executive requirements mean that federal courts should accord greater authority to the democratically elected branches of the government. Justice Scalia's primary areas of study, administrative law and separation of powers, reflect his adherence to judicial self-restraint.
One aspect of administrative law and separation …

The Need For A New National Court, Douglas D. Mcfarland, Thomas E. Baker

By any measure, the Supreme Court is tremendously overburdened. Statistics speak clearly on this point; sometimes they shout. After the caseload relief provided by the Judges' Bill, 4 which was passed in I925 and took effect during the I928 Term, the Supreme Court caseload grew slowly for thirty years. Beginning in the I96os, growth sharply accelerated, and during the I970S and I98os, the numbers exploded.

Isostatic Compensation And Conduit Structures Of Western Pacific Seamounts: Results Of Three-Dimensional Gravity Modeling, James N. Kellogg, Bruce S. Wedgeworth, Jeffrey T. Freymueller

Detailed three-dimensional polygonal prism models of two large western Pacific seamounts show that the 135 mgal difference in the observed sea surface gravity over the two can be best explained by similar mean densities (2.6 gjcm3) and crustal thickening under one seamount (Airy isostatic compensation). Observed calculated residuals are further reduced by including dense (2.9 gjcm3) vertical feeder pipes or volcanic conduits in the models. Dense conduits or fracture zones 5 to 17 km in diameter are located under many, if not all, craters on volcanic islands and seamounts. Results from the detailed seamount studies can be generalized using exact …
