Biblical Worldview And The Business Curriculum: The Scriptural Foundations For Business Series, Bruce Wrenn, Michael E. Cafferky Apr 2015

Biblical Worldview And The Business Curriculum: The Scriptural Foundations For Business Series, Bruce Wrenn, Michael E. Cafferky

Faculty Publications

Business faculty at Christian Colleges take seriously the obligation and privilege of integrating faith and learning in their courses. Providing students with a biblical worldview (BW) of the business disciplines gives them an understanding of how the discipline covered in their courses can be comprehended — and eventually practiced — within the context of biblical truth. To date, faculty have had few resources that integrate a systematic, rigorous presentation of a BW across the curriculum. A new series is now available to help business faculty accomplish that goal.

Return To Political Theology, Joshua D. Hawley Mar 2015

Return To Political Theology, Joshua D. Hawley

There was a time when theology was called the "queen of the sciences." From the beginnings of the university in the High Middle Ages through the nineteenth century, theology formed the backbone of liberal instruction at institutions of higher learning. Those days are long past. What remains of theological investigation in most major American universities has been trans- posed into the study of religion and safely sequestered in "religious studies" departments. Few undergraduates today encounter theology as a discipline-and as for law students, well, the idea that theology might have some relevance for the study of law is regarded in …

Historical And Theological Perspectives On The Rise Of Arminianism And The Place Of Seventh-Day Adventism In The Calvinist-Arminian Debate, Denis Fortin

Faculty Publications

This article provides a brief historical survey of some of the theological issues raised by Arminius and The Remonstrance, and seeks to identify the key theological arguments that anchor the Arminian perspective of the Adventist doctrine of salvation. Four hundred years ago, in 1610, a group of Dutch pastors and theologians published a document in which they responded to the accusations of heresy leveled against the teachings of their colleague, Reformed theologian Jacobus Arminius, who had recently died (1609). This document encapsulated Arminian teachings on the doctrine of salvation in five points and subsequently became known as The Remonstrance …

A Theology Of Ordination: An Integration Of Bible And Ellen G. White’S Writings, P. Gerard Damsteegt Jul 2014

A Theology Of Ordination: An Integration Of Bible And Ellen G. White’S Writings, P. Gerard Damsteegt

Faculty Publications

A theology of ordination should begin with investigating what is God’s testimony about ordination in the Scriptures. In this study, insights into the Old and New Testament history from the writings of Ellen G. White will be referred to whenever they shed light on the biblical passages and their relevance for today. In addition, the study has tried to investigate how ordination is connected to the truth as it is in Jesus, the Head of the church. Ordination and its authority will also be related to Jesus’ model of leadership in the church. The biblical examples of appointment, consecration, or …

Dealing With Doctrinal Issues In The Church: Part 1, Richard M. Davidson, Paul S. Ratsara

Faculty Publications

This series of articles suggests some ground rules for dealing with a potentially divisive theological issue. Dealing With Doctrinal Issues In The Church: Proposal For Ground Rules, Paul S. Ratsara, Richard M. Davidson

Faculty Publications

We believe in the unity of the church. The church comprises of people from all walks of life and from various backgrounds. While the membership of the church culturally diverse we must preserve its unity under God’s leadership. Unity should not necessarily mean uniformity in the Seventh-day Adventist church. Rather it means oneness of faith, purpose, and practice in Jesus Christ.

In the modern discussion over whether women should be ordained as pastors, the foundational passage for both those who affirm and those who oppose women’s ordination is Gen 1–3. Those who affirm women’s ordination find in the Genesis creation accounts a statement of full equality without hierarchy of man and woman, set forth as the divinely ordained creation order. They see the rest of Scripture calling us back toward that creation ideal, and allowing for women to fill any position of authority to which God calls and gifts them. Those who oppose the ordination of women also go to Gen …
