The question of educational facilities for Negroes as become an acute problem in the South in the last decade. The demand for equal opportunities in education is becoming more and more insistent among the mentally alert leaders of the colored group. They believe that since they are called upon to perform certain duties imposed by the Constitution, they should share in the benefits guaranteed by this sacred document.

The condensation of various phenols with phthalic anhydride is well known. In many cases the first preparation was made so long ago that our library contains no record of the author who first reported the condensation. A table of common indicators lists the following compounds which are the result of the condensation of phenols with phthalic anhydride: tetraiodofluoescein, dichlorofluoresfcein, b-naphtholphthalein, o-cresolphthalein, phenopthalein, and thymolphthalein. In addition to these many sulfonphthaleins are well known. These compounds are commonly prepared by the reation of the phenol with phthalic anhydride in the presence of concentrated sulfuric acid at elevated temperatures, for varying lengths …

James Guthrie, like any man, may be considered as a private individual, as a participant in the economic activities of his time, and as a citizen. Of Guthrie’s personal life little is known besides the barest biographical outline. His business career was fairly successful in reaping monetary rewards from his "lucrative law practice," his real estate transactions, and his participation in various corporate activities. An estimate of Noel Coward's contribution to the comedy of manners necessitates an understanding of: (1) the nature and the place of the comedy of manners in modern drama, (2) Noel Coward's background, and (3) an analysis of Noel Coward's formula for the comedy of manners. We find in the material relating to modern drama. little discussion of the comedy of manners. Occasionally plays may be mentioned as comedies of manners, but there is no discussion as to the specific nature of the comedy of manners in modern drama.
