Periods frequently occur during the year when a plant such as the South Dakota State College power plant designed to carry a combined power and heating load will have to supply a large power load when there is a little demand for steam heat, while during other periods of the year the plant will be called upon to supply a large heating load when there is no corresponding large demand for electric power. In many plants similar to the one under consideration the power load is not sufficient and the exhaust steam from the prime mover is not adequate for …

The attempt by the state of Mississippi to provide for the education of is people, both white and negro, has been an arduous one. Especially difficult has been the attempt to provide adequate educational opportunities for its Negro group, and although some progress has been made there is still too wide a discrepancy between what has been done and the minimum of what could be done with regard to the physical; facilities, teaching personnel, and curricula content.

There is an easy complacency in Louisville about tuberculosis. Some years ago the city and Jefferson County jointly built a beautiful and spacious sanatorium at Waverley Hills. Visiting physicians praise its adequate equipment and staff. Hospital statistics prove that it supplies the city and county with more than the standard number of beds for tuberculous patients; its provision for Negro patients is unusually generous. These pleasing truths tend to dull anxiety over tuberculosis as a local menace. Other social and health problems may be admitted, but it is not generally considered that tuberculosis presents any difficulties. To what extent is …
