Plywood Adhesive Development., Edward J. Dowd

This thesis is primarily a study of two-step plywood adhesives made with varying amounts of phenol, 1, 3, 5 xylenol, resorcin, and formaldehyde. Each resin was evaluated by using it as the adhesive in making plywood. The plywood was then tested for shear strength and wood failure after a four hour boil.

Procedures are given for making and testing various straight phenolic resins and resins modified with 1, 3, 5 xylenol or resorcin, or comibinations of both of these accelerating resins.

The straight phenolic resins gave boil-proof bonds, but the curing cycle was too long. Those phenolics modified with 1, …

The purpose of this paper is to describe the origin and development of a specific small school in a specific small community, to show how the school and the community cooperate with one another, and to present the relationship between this school and this community as an example of the democratic way of life on the local level. Although the herpetofauna of Kentucky is extensive and varied. it has received much less attention than that of most other states. Many herpetologists have reported on various phases of the state's amphibians and reptiles, but for the most part these reports are discrete, either pertaining to a collection, or a generic or specific study. Hence, there is no single adequate work which aptly describes the herpetology of Kentucky as a whole. Conscription was employed in most nations participating in the War and the artist, with his accurate, discerning eye and his sensitivity, was destined to report the War as he actually saw it unfold before him. A great part of the creative activity these artists engaged in was an analysis and reportage of the years from 1914, to 1918. The purpose of this study is to inquire into the social adjustment of patients admitted to the Louisville General Hospital in 1946, diagnosed as schizophrenic, treated there with electroshock therapy and subsequently discharged to their homes or to the Central State Hospital. Schizophrenia, as we know, is considered one of the most serious of personality disturbances and accounts for a high proportion of the admissions to mental hospitals. There are over 20,000 schizophrenics entering mental hospitals in the United States yearly. Prior to the use of convulsive therapy the prognosis for schizophrenic patients was regarded as poor, and no methods …

The criticism of Milton's Samson Agonistes has generally centered about interpretation of its autobiographical content and the interpretation of its classical form. The aim of this thesis is to show the relation of the inner, psychological form to the Puritan tradition. The biblical story from which Samson was derived, Judges 13-16, offers little to the scholar in understanding the psychological impetus of Samson. It is mainly a treatment of a pagan narrative demonstrating the snares inherent in trusting a woman with secrets. Samson finally regains his strength and pulls down the temple at Gaza and the narrative ends.

It was made the county seat by William Henry Harrison, governor of the Indiana Territory." A stranger visiting a city is usually attracted by those things along the lines of his own interests.
