The Installation And Operation Of A Creep Testing Machine To Determine Its Operating Characteristics, Lawrence L. Hansen

When designing any kind of structure or machine for high temperature operation, the engineer has to consider the effects of creep. In steam and gas turbines, for example, the rotor blades are subjected to high stresses by centrifugal force and to elevated temperatures by high pressure steam or hot gases. The combination of high stress and temperature causes a plastic deformation in the blades. This deformation, known as creep, occurs in all metals under the appropriate temperature and stress conditions, though some metals are more resistant to it than others. It is practically undesirable to employ a design so low …

The social life in Yugoslavian-American settlement described in this thesis is based on data collected in “Oysterville”, a predominantly oyster-farming community located in Plaquemines Parish, Louisiana. Additional information was collected from Yugoslavs living in New Orleans, Louisiana, and in Biloxi, Mississippi. The interval of the time covered by the study is roughly from 1820 to the present. Special emphasis is placed on the years from 1954 to 1961 when the basic survey data were collected. The basic problem of the study is to ascertain how the Yugoslavs in lower Louisiana have been able to retain their unique ethnic identity in …

Physical education in our schools is perhaps the least standardized of all the various curricula. Mobridge, South Dakota, is a town of approximately 4,400 residents located beside the Missouri River in the north central part of the state. Mobridge is a progressive city and has shown its interest in the physical and social well-being of its citizens. Physical education is an integral and vital part of education.
