Opinions Of The Graduated Majors In Physical Education, 1950-1972, Concerning Their Undergraduate Professional Preparation At Augustana College, Meta Louise Johnson

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Significance of the Study. Competency of teachers is becoming one of the major topics of concern in respect to physical education and its place in the realm of the education process. There is continual searching for the answers as to what the undergraduate needs in order to be professionally prepared to teach physical education in today's school system. Those students who have graduated and are out in the field are an excellent source of information; but all too often once the physical educator has graduated, the institution feels that its task is completed. In order to find out how effective …

The development and conservation of the nation's natural resources has often been associated with multi-million dollar investment projects. Such projects have generally been undertaken by the federal government and justified on an ex ante basis in the. Expectation that various individual and social benefits would accrue. In recent years-an increasing interest in the economic and social well-being of people in different regions has been expressed by different levels of government. Federal agencies administering natural resource projects have accordingly expressed a renewed interest in the regional economic impact of large scale resource projects. This study centered on an ex …

Histopathogenesis Of A Granulosis Virus In The Army Cutworm, Euxoa Auxiliaris (Grote), Jan Jeffrey Jackson

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

For more than a century, scientists have recognized that insect diseases are often caused by microorganisms and have suggested that these microbes might be used for insect control. Chemical control methods are presently the most common and effective means of controlling insect pests. However, many controversies have arisen concerning the total environmental impact of chemical pesticides on non-target organisms. Numerous insect pathogens have been isolated and studied with the expectation of their use as an alternative means of insect control. Among the more prominant microbes under investigation are the insect viruses. Most insect viruses exhibit a very limited host range; …

A New Method For The Rapid Isolation Of Streptococcus Bovis From Water, Jeffry F. Kohlhoff Jan 1973

A New Method For The Rapid Isolation Of Streptococcus Bovis From Water, Jeffry F. Kohlhoff

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The importance of the fecal streptococci as indicators of water pollution has come under increasing scrutiny. in the past decade. This has been due in part to improved methods of detection of fecal streptococci. Also, the fecal coliform and total coliform tests and· their significance have been questioned. The fecal streptococci may furnish a more reliable means of identifying sources of pollution. The fecal streptococci are those gram-positive cocci which occur in the intestinal tract of man and animals. The Sherman criteria for identification of the fecal streptococci are used in Bergey's Manual of Determinative Bacteriology to differentiate the viridans …

Comparison Of Six Methods For The Quantitation Of Salmonella Species From Surface Water, James George Nothnagel Jan 1973

Comparison Of Six Methods For The Quantitation Of Salmonella Species From Surface Water, James George Nothnagel

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The Water Quality Act of 1965 sets forth the national policies for water pollution prevention, control, and abatement for interstate waters. This act requires all states to prepare water quality standards for the interstate waters within their boundaries. In compliance with this requirement, the "Water Quality Standards for the Surface Waters of South Dakota" was adopted in 1967, thus establishing official parameters of water quality for all surface waters in the state. These standards take into account the three principal sources of pollution in the state which are municipal, industrial, and agricultural. Of particular interest is the contamination of these …

The Effects Of Various Training Programs On Selected Measurements Of College Women, Jeanne Kathleen Riis Jan 1973

The Effects Of Various Training Programs On Selected Measurements Of College Women, Jeanne Kathleen Riis

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Casual observation of newspaper and magazines, and of radio and television shows seems to indicate that a large number of women are interested in improving their appearance and physical fitness. An exercise program which reduces adipose tissue, changes girth measurements, and improves strength supplies such rewards as improved appearance, increased efficiency, weight normalization, and general overall fitness. But what exercise program produces the best results? Numerous programs have been advocated. Jogging has increased in popularity during the past few years and is reported to be an exercise that increases circulo-respiratory endurance, improves muscle tone, and reduces skinfold measurements. Open spaces, …

Computerized Distribution System Protection Program, Rodney C. H. Scheel Jan 1973

Computerized Distribution System Protection Program, Rodney C. H. Scheel

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The protection of power distribution systems is essential to insure customer reliability of service, and minimize damage caused by man, nature, and material defects. Large currents flowing through devices and lines which are· not designed to carry these currents for long periods of time cause electrical damage. The distribution system must be protected from the product it delivers, electric energy, in magnitudes larger than the system was designed to carry. Distribution system protection is provided by devices which interrupt damaging currents. A distribution system fault study and a distribution system coordination study must be performed to provide distribution system protection. …

Complex Formation Between Copper (Ii) And 3,7-Dihydroxyl-1,5-Diphenyloctahydro-1,5-Diazocine : Construction And Application Of Wax Bound Copper Sulfide And Copper Oxide Electrodes, Kwai Yin Wong Jan 1973

Complex Formation Between Copper (Ii) And 3,7-Dihydroxyl-1,5-Diphenyloctahydro-1,5-Diazocine : Construction And Application Of Wax Bound Copper Sulfide And Copper Oxide Electrodes, Kwai Yin Wong

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The purpose of this work was to study the complex formation between Cu2+ and 3,7-dihydroxyl-l,5-diphenyloctahydro-1,5-diazocine(L). Difficulties have been encountered in getting a pure complex due toside reactions. Various methods have been used to analyze the complexation as well as side products. As complex formation can be detected by measuring eu2+ concentration with a specific ion electrode, wax bound CuS and CuO electrodes have been constructed and their behavior in ethanol solution evaluated so as to employ them in the analysis of the Cu 2+ and L system. Unfortunately, all electrodes change in time to a certain degree because they are …

A Monetarist Model Of Equity Valuation., James Clifford Barnes Jan 1973

A Monetarist Model Of Equity Valuation., James Clifford Barnes

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Prior to 1945, few academic articles had been addressed to the area of equity valuation models. Since that time, with the advances of analytic economics and in particular the theory of interest rates, several formal equity valuation models have been developed. Several of the models myopically concentrated on microeconomic variables resulting in their inability to discern cyclical shifts in aggregate equity value indices. This shortcoming has been rectified by economists who have tended toward the reemerging monetarist school of thought. The result has been the construction of models designed to examine the movement of aggregate equity share price indices with …
