Factors Affecting Shallow Ground Water Levels In The Big Sioux Basin Portion Of Brookings And Hamlin Counties In South Dakota, Peter Ray Ofstedal
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
It’s hard to imagine the well running dry in the United States. Over 4.2 trillion gallons of water, or 20,000 gallons for each American, will fall, on the average, over forty-eight contiguous states each day in the form of rain, snow, sleet, or hail. This averages about thirty inches of precipitation per year. Water is the lifeblood of agriculture. While many farmers and ranchers receive an adequate supply of water from natural precipitation cycles, others do not receive an adequate supply and must depend upon irrigation to supplement the water supply which is available. The development of ground water supplies …

The Impact Of The Repeal Of South Dakota Marketing Act On The Producer, Processor, Retailer, And Consumer, Clarence Mends
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Between 1966 and 1978, was under state price-fixing regulations specified by the South Dakota Dairy Marketing Act of 1966. These price regulating practices were justified on the assumption that the unregulated market system within the state, if allowed to function alone, would not operate in the best interests of the state’s citizens. Among the conditions in the dairy industry that give rise to the need for regulation are variations in the supply and demand for fluid milk during the year. Moreover, as milk is a perishable product, it cannot be stored for extended periods of time. Also, production of fluid …

The Effect Of Ferric-Nitrilotriacetic Acid On Selected Hemogram Parameters Of Gestating And Lactating Swine And Their Offspring, Thomas Allen Heirigs
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Ever since man has moved to confinement farrowing of swine, the problem of iron-deficiency in baby pigs has increased. The problem can be partially alleviated by various treatments which can be employed by the swine producer. However, many of these treatments stress to the young piglet and involve much time and labor, which may not be available during parturition. A beneficial tool to the porcine producer would be the elimination of both the stress placed on the neonatal pig and of the extra labor providing a hematinic which would be administered prepartum to the dam. The hematinic employed must be …
Variability Of Factors Influencing Stand Establishment In Green Needlegrass Populations From Western South Dakota, Terril J. Heilman
Variability Of Factors Influencing Stand Establishment In Green Needlegrass Populations From Western South Dakota, Terril J. Heilman
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
In recent years, there has been an alarming conversion of rang-land to cropland in western South Dakota. More importantly, much of this increase in cropland has resulted in the plowing of large areas of land where the soils are unsuited or only marginally suited to continuous cultivation. During the period from 1967 to 1975, the extent of this trend represented a net increase of about 200,000 of class IV soils, which are used for the production of annual crops. Historically, such unwise expansions of cropland to land areas that are susceptable to severe wind and water erosion have resulted in …
