Spatial Control Of Crop Inputs Via Laptop And Typical Field Travel, Joseph Alan Schumacher
Spatial Control Of Crop Inputs Via Laptop And Typical Field Travel, Joseph Alan Schumacher
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Field Grid Sense (FGS) is a system developed for use with a laptop computer to control crop production inputs. FGS can be used for spatially controlling and recording field inputs according to regional requirements within the field. Location is identified via the travel lanes formed during field operations. Grid areas within lanes are formed by measuring from the beginning of each lane to the start of each grid within the lane. Distance measurements are reset at the beginning of each lane in order to eliminate accumulated distance error in the field. A fifth wheel, which runs in the smooth path …
An Administrative Model For Professional Development Centers In The Reform Of Teacher Education, Norma J. Morrison
An Administrative Model For Professional Development Centers In The Reform Of Teacher Education, Norma J. Morrison
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The problem of this study was to identify a validated model of professional development centers (PDCs) for teacher education that could be applied collaboratively by administrators in higher education and the local school systems. A thorough investigation failed to reveal a model. Therefore, a professional development center model was synthesized from the literature, attributes of existing centers, and ideas of East Tennessee educators who were in positions to implement such a model. The examination of centers incorporated both quantitative and qualitative research methodology. The quantitative investigation was a combination of inductive and deductive analysis of responses to a survey form …

The Relationship Of Presidential Leadership Style And The Financial Health Of Private, Nonproprietary Institutions Of Higher Learning, Sandra E. Seay
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The primary purpose of this study was to determine if a relationship existed between the financial health of academic institutions and the leadership style of college and university presidents. Financial health was defined as the ability of an institution to pay its current debts. Secondly, the study tested a number of hypotheses derived from the contingency model of leadership effectiveness. Lastly, the study attempted to determine if there was an association between two lists of institutions considered to be led by effective presidents. The study involved a stratified random sample of 263 private institutions accredited by the Southern Association of …

Demographic data and information were collected by a state-wide survey of Tennessee educators. Two research questions were raised to guide the study. The comparison data collected pertained to sex and age of the participants, highest degree completed by the participants, participants' Career Ladder status, professional membership, professional experience, and the type and classification of school in which the participants worked. The information concerning educators' perceptions regarding the …
A Comparison Of Two Hypnotic Methods For Achieving And Maintaining Abstinence From Smoking, Ronald Lee Lutz
A Comparison Of Two Hypnotic Methods For Achieving And Maintaining Abstinence From Smoking, Ronald Lee Lutz
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Although many different approaches, including hypnosis, are used to help cigarette smokers quit, a review of the literature indicates that no one treatment outperforms any other in preventing relapse and promoting long-term abstinence.
One technique which has been used in a limited way to prevent relapse is the programmed relapse episode. Some research suggests that the use of a programmed relapse with cigarette smokers trying to quit may actually increase the likelihood of relapse. This study hypothesized that one way to obtain the possible instructional benefits of a programmed relapse without precipitating actual relapse may be to employ a hypnotically …

John F. Kennedy, Ghana And The Volta River Project : A Study In American Foreign Policy Towards Neutralist Africa., Kurt X. Metzmeier 1959-
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The emergence of an independent neutralist Africa changed the dynamics of the cold war. The military-strategic orientation of the United States and Soviet Union had little relevance to underdeveloped Africa. Following the death of Joseph Stalin, the USSR began to discard the ideological impediments which had hampered their relations with neutralist Africa, but the United States under the Eisenhower Administration continued to oppose the neutralist doctrine. John F. Kennedy came to office determined to bring a new dynamism to United States foreign policy towards Africa. He declared a new tolerance of neutralism. The decision whether to give foreign aid to …

Energy-Dependent, High-Affinity Transport Of Nickel By Thermophilic Acetogenic Bacteria, Hsiuchin Yang
Energy-Dependent, High-Affinity Transport Of Nickel By Thermophilic Acetogenic Bacteria, Hsiuchin Yang
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Nickel plays an essential role in acetogenesis at the level of acetyl-CoA synthetase, and the mechanism of nickel transport is therefore central to the metabolic capacities of acetogens. The mechanism of nickel transport by the thermophilic acetogenic bacteria Clostridium thermoaceticum ATCC 39073 and Acetogenium kivui ATCC 33488 was investigated using 63NiCl2 and an anaerobic microfiltration transport assay. Nickel transport by C. thermoaceticum was optimal at pH 7-7.5 and 65°C; nickel transport by A. kivui was optimal at pH 6.4 and 65°C. Cells during the early stages of growth displayed the highest propensity for nickel transport. Nickel transport was …
Variants And Polymorphisms Of Three Repetitive Dna Families In The Human Genome, Robert M. Roudabush
Variants And Polymorphisms Of Three Repetitive Dna Families In The Human Genome, Robert M. Roudabush
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
A novel 0.6 kb LINE family in human DNA, designated L2Hs, has been described (Musich and Dykes 1986). Studies employing clone N6.4, containing three 0.6 kb segments of this family, indicate that these sequences are interspersed and moderately repetitive. Two additional variant sequences of the L2Hs family, N6.1 and N6.3, have been identified. Restriction mapping of each cloned segment indicates similarities among N6.4, N6.3 and N6.1. When the cloned DNAs were cleaved with restriction enzymes and subjected to cross-hybridization, each cloned insert produced a pattern indicating that the sequences contained in N6.1 and N6.3 are represented in at least one …

Effects Of Melanocyte Stimulating Hormone (Msh) On The Transformation Of Phaeo- To Eumelanogenesis In The Lethal Yellow Mouse (C57bl/6j;Ay/A), Alexander W. Van Amerongen
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The objective of this study was to assess if· MSH induces in yellow (Ay/a) mice, a program of black melanin production that is identical in terms of melanosome structure and development to that of normal black (a/a) mice. Since there is a difference between melanosomes of the two genotypes, Ay/a and a/a, and MSH induces eumelanin production in phaeomelanin producing Ay/a melanocytes of the opportunity exists to narrow down and define the Ay/a effects on melanosomal parameters after MSH treatment. If there is any significant difference between Ay/a and a/a melanosomal parameters measured, these differences are due solely to the …
Wall Lake, South Dakota : A Case Study In Geographic Planning, Jane E. Van Hunnik
Wall Lake, South Dakota : A Case Study In Geographic Planning, Jane E. Van Hunnik
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Wall Lake is a hypereutrophic (overenriched with nutrients) glacial lake similar in character to many other glacial lakes in South Dakota. As is the case with most glacial lakes, Wall Lake is naturally eutrophic (nutrient enriched) because of the nutrient rich loess which usually occurs in close proximity to glacial kettles and is mixed with nutrient rich glacial till. A hypereutrophic state occurs when additional nutrients are added to the lake by such sources as agricultural runoff, mixing of water with enriched sediments, and by wastewater systems. The result is the accelerated natural progression from lake, to wetland, to dry …
South Dakota's Evolving Settlement Landscape : Primary Factors Of Site Selection, Catherine Marion Lockwood
South Dakota's Evolving Settlement Landscape : Primary Factors Of Site Selection, Catherine Marion Lockwood
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Maps, rather than historical literature, form the primary data base employed in this study. Historical and current literature is used to supplement map interpretation. Techniques frequently employed in settlement geography are utilized to examine anomalies of site selection. While particular aspects of several theories and methodological procedures fundamental to settlement geography research are incorporated within this study, individual trait (e.g. house type) and typology studies are not an area of focus. Distribution and clustering of individual homesteads and towns, however, are discussed with respect to factors of location. Demography, population density, and carrying capacity are concepts that are alluded to, …

How Readers Perceive And Use A Company-Sponsored Magazine : A Readership Research Model, Stephen H. Simons
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
For the publisher of an external company sponsored magazine it is important to periodically assess the publication's effectiveness as a communications tool. The editor needs to identify the readers' preferences and needs to reassess the editorial focus of the magazine. This includes demographic information on the target audience. A readership survey can provide this information in a cost-effective manner. This thesis attempts to present a model for an in-house readership survey for a company-sponsored magazine. The following survey was developed for one company-sponsored magazine, the GTA Feeds Dairy Update magazine. This 16-page -company-sponsored magazine is issued four times each year …
