The Impact Of Site-Based Management On Perceived Roles Of Superintendents, Board Chairpersons, Principals And Selected Central Office Personnel In Tennessee School Systems, Narvia D. Haywood
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The introduction of site-based management has had an impact on the operation of school systems in Tennessee; however no one seems to know for certain what that impact was. Findings from this study revealed that there is a basic understanding of the impact of site-based management as perceived by superintendents, board chairpersons, principals, personnel, budget, curriculum, and staff development administrators. Findings also revealed that central office staff and principals, for the most part, perceive that the superintendents and board chairpersons were supportive of site-based management programs. One hundred and eighty-one educators, including board chairpersons, responded to a fifty-four item questionnaire. …

A Preliminary Preview Of Compensatory Forest Plantation In Peninsular Malaysia, Tuck Chin
A Preliminary Preview Of Compensatory Forest Plantation In Peninsular Malaysia, Tuck Chin
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Projections of supply and demand for timber appear to indicate a domestic shortage in Peninsular Malaysia by the year 2000. Timber shortage will result in loss of foreign exchange, retrenchment of timber workers, inflate prices and depress construction and housing industries. Compensatory Forest Plantation Program (CFPP) is one of the methods taken by the Malaysian Government to avert this impending crisis. CFPP was officially launched in 1983, in four States of Peninsular Malaysia. By 1989, forest plantations totaling 36,874 hectares were established. A final analysis of CFPP is premature, as the program is only in its seventh year of a …
Changes In Intracellular Chloride During Osmotic Stress And L-Alanine Uptake In Mouse Hepatocytes, Kening Wang
Changes In Intracellular Chloride During Osmotic Stress And L-Alanine Uptake In Mouse Hepatocytes, Kening Wang
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
A stable intracellular ionic environment is necessary for hepatocytes to function normally. Thus, during hypotonic shock or L-alanine uptake, hepatocytes swell and then exhibit a regulatory volume decrease (RVD), which comprises an increase in K$\sp+$ conductance (G$\sb{\rm K}$), an increased K$\sp+$ efflux, and a hyperpolarization of transmembrane potential (V$\sb{\rm m}$). Since hepatocyte intracellular Cl$\sp-$ has been demonstrated to distribute passively with V$\sb{\rm m}$, this study is designed to test the hypothesis that the hypotonic shock- or L-alanine uptake-induced hyperpolarization of V$\sb{\rm m}$ might provide an electromotive force for the efflux of hepatocyte intracellular Cl$\sp-$, which in turn would contribute osmotically …

Part-Time Faculty Satisfaction And Reward Systems., William E. Thompson
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
This document is a study of part-time faculty at the University of Louisville. The data collection, conducted by a questionnaire mailed to all part-time faculty members, developed a demographic profile of the university's part-time faculty as well as a profile within the taxonomy of part-time faculty motivation described by Tuckman. After establishing that profile, a comparative analysis of the level of satisfaction and desired reward systems was conducted. This study provides initial data about the composition of part-time faculty at this four-year institution and provides possible strategies for college and university administrators planning part-time faculty compensation and recognition programs.

Social Warrants And Classroom Practices., Carol Mattingly 1945-
Social Warrants And Classroom Practices., Carol Mattingly 1945-
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Scholars in rhetoric and composition have heralded a new way of thinking about writing, referring to the change as a paradigm shift (Hairston, Young) or naming the new direction a "social turn" in rhetoric and composition (Bizzell, Bruffee). Within the writing classroom, this emphasis on the social has encouraged pervasive use of three practices: use of personal experience in writing; contextualization of student writing; and collaborative learning. Although all three practices fall under the larger "social" rubric, practitioners draw warrants from numerous theoretical constructs which often represent very different or even opposing philosophies. This study attempts to gain greater understanding …
Models, G. Lawrence Wells
Models, G. Lawrence Wells
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
This thesis defines the content of the imagery in my thesis exhibit. My content stems from a troubled relationship with the hierarchical structure of consumer society. | am reacting against the sexism and racism in our society, especially found in the subtle messages broadcast through the mass media. The title “Models” has a double meaning - both in its reference to the images in the show as “models”, as artificial structures from which to gain ideas about the real world; and also as a reference to “models”, as women exhibiting the latest fashion. I want to make the viewers aware …

Molecular And Cellular Analysis Of Chlamydia Trachomatis: Persistence And Reactivation, Kimberly R. Tau
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Chlamydia trachomatis (CT) is the most prevalent sexually-transmitted infection in the United States. It has been suggested that CT infections can become latent. This has not been substantiated. CT persistence was examined at the molecular and cellular level in vitro and in vivo. Penicillin treatment of CT in vitro results in abnormal inclusions and reduced recovery of infectious CT. Penicillin did not inhibit initial stages of infection, but did downregulate CT rRNA levels after 25 hours post-inoculation (p.i.). DNA amplification was employed to differentiate between a resolved infection and a persistent one. Utilizing a primer pair that amplified a 144 …

Developing A Theology Of The Lord's Supper, Bill Allen
Developing A Theology Of The Lord's Supper, Bill Allen
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
For many people today, the Lord's Supper is the most important and significant act of the Sunday assembly when the church gathers to worship. Many of those who consider it significant, however, have little or no knowledge of its rich biblical and historical background, while even fewer have given thought to its theological foundation. There is a great need today for renewal in the area of corporate Christian worship and particularly in the church's participation in the Lord's Supper.
