Gender Differences Of The Older Adult In Relationship To Ego Integrity And The Need For Control., Ginger Helm May 2000

Gender Differences Of The Older Adult In Relationship To Ego Integrity And The Need For Control., Ginger Helm

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The present study examined gender differences in relationship to ego integrity resolution of Erikson's stage theory and the need for control in the older adult ranging from 55-90 years of age. Erikson's ego integrity versus despair was measured with a subscale found in Measures of Psychological Development by Hawley (1988). The need for control was measured with a scale developed by Burger and Cooper (1979).

Because of social roles, it was first predicted that males would score higher on resolution of ego integrity and lower on the need for control. The mean resolution of integrity score for males (N=31) was …

Policy And Practice Concerning Essay-Grading Criteria In Developmental English And College-Level English Programs In Tennessee Community Colleges., Walter Paul Wolford

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The criteria used to grade college essays have been the subject of research for over three decades. Using quantatative data, this study investigated the differences in essay-grading criteria and essay-grading policy among full-time faculty members who teach English composition in Tennessee's community colleges.

This study revealed beliefs about the importance of essay-grading criteria and beliefs about written and unwritten essay-grading policies among those who teach developmental English, college-level English, and those who teach both levels of English. This study hypothesized that there were no differences among the English composition teacher's beliefs about the importance of the twenty essay-grading criteria nor …

Vertices In Total Dominating Sets., Robert Elmer Dautermann Iii May 2000

Vertices In Total Dominating Sets., Robert Elmer Dautermann Iii

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Fricke, Haynes, Hedetniemi, Hedetniemi, and Laskar introduced the following concept. For a graph G = (V,E), let rho denote a property of interest concerning sets of vertices. A vertex u is rho-good if u is contained in a {minimum, maximum} rho-set in G and rho-bad if u is not contained in a rho-set. Let g denote the number of rho-good vertices and b denote the number of rho-bad vertices. A graph G is called rho-excellent if every vertex in V is rho-good, rho-commendable if g > b > 0, rho-fair if g = b, and …

Supervisory Feedback In Speech-Language Pathology: Preferences And Practices., Janet Michelle Gurley May 2000

Supervisory Feedback In Speech-Language Pathology: Preferences And Practices., Janet Michelle Gurley

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Research in the area of clinical supervision has historically been limited, especially in the field of speech-language pathology. Furthermore, those few studies that do exist were primarily published during the decade of the 1980's. Clinical supervision, and specifically its critical component of supervisory feedback, is crucial to all clinical training programs. However, supervision research only mentions the topic of supervisory feedback and neglects the relationship between supervisory feedback preferences and actual supervisory practices. This study was designed to identify and compare supervisor and supervisee preferences and perceptions regarding supervisory feedback, to relate these preferences to a continuum-based model of clinical …

Mode Vertices And Mode Graphs., Jobriath Scott Kauffman May 2000

Mode Vertices And Mode Graphs., Jobriath Scott Kauffman

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The eccentricity of a vertex, v, of a connected graph, G, is the distance to a furthest vertex from v. A mode vertex of a connected graph, G, is a vertex whose eccentricity occurs as often in the eccentricity sequence of G as the eccentricity of any other vertex. The mode of a graph, G, is the subgraph induced by the mode vertices of G. A mode graph is a connected graph for which each vertex is a mode vertex. Note that mode graphs are a generalization of self-centered graphs. This paper presents some …

Teaching critical thinking is a national education goal. The ability to think critically is considered an essential skill of nursing graduates and is a necessary component of competent nursing practice. This research study sought to identify barriers to the implementation of critical thinking teaching strategies as perceived by nursing faculty in generic, BSN programs in Tennessee. The Manuscripts Of Acts From Vatopedi Monastery, Mount Athos, Greece, Michael A. Michaud

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Of the 5,487 manuscripts known today, fewer than half have been studied, yet curiously most have been assigned a text-type. The Byzantine minuscules are among the majority of these manuscripts which have been assigned a text-type even though they have not been studied. Hort's negative assessment of the Byzantine manusrcipts and their neglect by scholars such as Comfort, and K. Aland have caused them to be disregarded. However, until there is proof to the contrary, the Byzantine minuscules should play a meaningful role in the textual criticism of the Greek New Testament. More importantly, before manuscripts are assigned text-types or …

The Gendered World Of Disney: A Content Analysis Of Gender Themes In Full-Length Animated Disney Feature Films, Beth A. Wiersma

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Research has focused on the gender messages portrayed in television programs, cartoons, advertisements, literature, picture books, and fairy tales. One venue that has not received as much attention in the research is the Disney 1 full-length animated feature films. This is a qualitative study of the gender themes and portrayal of gender roles in full-length animated feature films by The Walt Disney Company. The findings in this research indicate there has been little change in the stereotyped portrayals of Disney characters from the release of the first full-length animated feature film Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs in 1937 to …
