It was my objective to try to determine the mechanism of nucleophilic substitution at phosphorus in monothiophosphate triesters and to apply what I learn to the other phosphate systems. I also tried to obtain more data to show that the Lewis acid-base type complex through the phosphoryl oxygen is existent and does influence the reaction.

Effects Of Land Disposal Of Pulp Mill Effluents On Plant Nutrient Uptake And Element Balance, Joseph B. Schwarzback

An analysis of the soil and plant tissues was undertaken to ascertain the effect that land irrigation with pulp mill effluent has on nutrient uptake and element balance of tree seedlings. Results show that the effluent significantly increased the sodium content of both soil and tissue; however, these levels fell far below the level necessary to become detrimental to plant life, soil chemistry and soil structure. There was evidence that the increase of elements from the effluent provided positive effects in growth and plant health. There was no evidence of sodium toxicity or calcium starvation. Development Of A Simulation Game In The Area Of Housing, Beverlee Olson Buenning

This study focused on the development of a simulation game to teach certain aspects of housing. Underlying the development of the game was the assumption that a simulation game can be an effective teaching technique. The development of the game involved the use of a simulation design: objectives and generalizations for housing, questions that required decision-making, and designing a game board. More precise objectives were (1) to gain information about simulation gaming, particularly current research in the area of gaming in home economics, and (2) to develop a game for use in teaching specific behavioral objectives in the area of …

Attempts to reform South Dakota's tax system will undoubtedly affect cooperatives. The economic viability of cooperatives depends in part on the economic impact of the tax system. Since cooperatives play a significant role in the South Dakota economy, it is necessary for policymakers to understand both how cooperatives will be affected by different aspects of the tax system and what consequence this will have for communities. The cooperative form of enterprise is dissimilar in many respects from other forms of economic enterprise (i.e., corporations, single proprietorships and partnerships). The general objective of this study was to determine the vulnerability to the effects of nuclear detonation of two selected representative water treatment utilities in order to assess the overall preparedness of South Dakota Water utilities. Some specific questions of the investigation were these:
1) Is adequate protection from radioactivity available in the area of the treatment plant for the operators to function safely during a fallout period? Could the operators continue to operate the plant?
