A Study Of The Drop-Outs From The Watertown High School, Grades Ix Through Xii, During The Five School Years 1946 To 1951, Merton L. Meinicke

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The problem of encouraging pupils to remain in high school until graduation is of major importance not only to the schools but the community as well. It has been said that the public schools, and especially the secondary schools, have continued to be highly selective institutions. Adjustments within the school have not, in many cases, kept pace with changing school enrollments. Today we find a widely divergent student body necessitating wider ranges of experience to meet the needs of these individuals if we are to keep them in school until graduation. The schools, charged with the responsibility of preparing youth …

Isotope Shift In The Atomic Spectrum Of Germanium, Arthur B. Hook Jan 1952

Isotope Shift In The Atomic Spectrum Of Germanium, Arthur B. Hook

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The stable isotopes of naturally occurring Germanium may emit slightly different frequencies, resulting in a hyperfine structure of the spectrum lines. An investigation of the isotopes shifts in the spectra of Ge I and Ge II has been made, and the methods and results of this investigation are presented in this paper.

The Spieker Circle And Certain Related Configurations, Berthola Elmo Lumzy Jan 1952

The Spieker Circle And Certain Related Configurations, Berthola Elmo Lumzy

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

This thesis, presented to the Department of Mathematics at Xavier University in partial fulfillment of requirements for the degree of Master of Arts in 1952, examines the Spieker circle, a circle inscribed in the median triangle of a given triangle, and extends its defining properties to related geometric configurations. Lumzy first establishes a series of analogies between the Spieker circle and the nine-point circle, demonstrating parallel relationships involving radius, center, harmonic conjugates, and homothetic centers relative to the incenter, median point, and Nagel point of a triangle.

The thesis then proves that the Spieker circle is inscribed in two congruent …

Developmental Anatomy And Dehiscence Of The Fruit Of Astragalus Canadensis L., David J. Holden Jan 1952

Developmental Anatomy And Dehiscence Of The Fruit Of Astragalus Canadensis L., David J. Holden

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Dehiscence is the process of splitting-open which id found in certain dry fruits, sporangia, and other containers. These dry fruits cane be classified into two main groups, vis., those composed of a single carpel and those made up up of several carpels united to form a compound pistil. It is the former with which we deal in this thesis, The former group can be further subdivided into fruits which dehisce down one side and those which open on opposite sides. The follicle includes the fruits which generally split down both the dorsal and ventral sides. If one speaks of a …

Itaconic Acid Derivatives Of Sulfanilamide And Sulfone, Malcolm J. Thompson Jan 1952

Itaconic Acid Derivatives Of Sulfanilamide And Sulfone, Malcolm J. Thompson

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

This thesis, submitted to Xavier University in partial fulfillment of requirements for a Maters degree in chemistry in 1952, reports the synthesis and characterization of itaconic acid derivatives of sulfanilamide and amino phenyl sulfone compounds. The research describes reaction procedures and the isolation and purification of a series of novel chemical compounds, with experimental data including melting points, percent yields, elemental analysis, and molecular weights reported for numerous derivatives. The thesis presents conclusions regarding the chemical properties and reactivity of the synthesized compounds.
