Nitrogen And Phosphorus Fertilizer, And Synthetic Soil Conditioner Treatments, As They Affect Small Grains On Eastern South Dakota Soils, Ray Gene Gresham
Nitrogen And Phosphorus Fertilizer, And Synthetic Soil Conditioner Treatments, As They Affect Small Grains On Eastern South Dakota Soils, Ray Gene Gresham
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The use of fertilizer is rapidly becoming an essential part of the soil management program of eastern South Dakota. Commercial fertilizer should be used to help correct the plant food deficiencies that normally occur under our best soil management systems. At the present time, most South Dakota soils have the capacity to supply all the essential elements required for general crop production except nitrogen and phosphorus. These two elements are required in large amounts by crops and as a consequence of our extensive type of farming are now deficient in many of the soils. Potassium is also required in large …
Why Former South Dakota Teachers Of Vocational Agriculture Left The Profession In South Dakota 1946 Through 1953, Lester Clarke
Why Former South Dakota Teachers Of Vocational Agriculture Left The Profession In South Dakota 1946 Through 1953, Lester Clarke
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
It has been known that there are many capable and qualified teachers in South Dakota public and parochial schools who have not returned to the South Dakota classrooms each fall. They have left the field of education to enter another occupation, enter military service, resume formal study, enter or return homemaking, leave the state to teach elsewhere, or a host of other reason; nevertheless, they do not return to South Dakota classrooms. The fact they have not returned to their classrooms should be a matter of grave concern to all interested in our school system. Many people have believed that …
A Study Of A Short-Period Gyrocompass, Archie D. Wilcox
A Study Of A Short-Period Gyrocompass, Archie D. Wilcox
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Although Foucault did considerable work on the behavior of rotating bodies, the Foucault gyroscope or gyroscopic compass appears to have been suggested by Lord Kelvin in 1883. Essentially this is a rotating body suspended with its axis of spin free to turn in a horizontal plane. The first commercial gyrocompass, the Anschuetz-Kaempfe model, was patented in 1908. It was followed in 1911 by the Sperry gyrocompass. These two are the most important commercial gyrocompasses although several improvements and modifications have been patented. The Anschuetz compass used mercury to suspend the direction-seeking element. This element contained three rotors, the main north-seeking …

A Study Of The Professional Preparation, Coaching, And Teaching Experience Of Coaches In Fifty High Schools In Northeastern South Dakota, Warren E. Williamson
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The writer in preparing for coaching and teaching, and after being in the field three years, has become increasingly aware of the lack of specific information about the status of high-school coaches in South Dakota. Because of this interest in the coaching and teaching field this study was planned. It is hoped that specific information compiled in this report will be of value to coaches in the field, to young men planning to enter the field and to colleges preparing men for the coaching and teaching field.
Statement of the Problem: It was the purpose of this report to gather …

Problem Areas Of Beginning Teachers Of Vocational Agriculture In South Dakota, Wendell Deboer
Problem Areas Of Beginning Teachers Of Vocational Agriculture In South Dakota, Wendell Deboer
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
A beginning teacher in vocational agriculture is confronted by many problems when he begins his teaching career. Some of these problems are temporary and are mastered by the individual in a short time. Some are not immediate, but appear as the teacher gains more experience. These, also, may be mastered in a short period of time. Still other problems arise that become ever-present ones and, in spite of all the initiative and experience the teacher can muster, they will still confront him. The writer, like all vocational agriculture teachers, is concerned with these problems. He has completed four years of …

A Study Of The Administrative Problems Related To The Scheduling Of Regular Classes And Extracurricular Activities In Ninety-Two High Schools In Eastern South Dakota, G. Wesley Peppers
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Each school in South Dakota and for that matter each school in the United States has its particular problems in the administration, organization, operation, and supervision of each school. Many of the problems are similar or related while others pertain only to local situations. Large schools may have entirely different problems from very small schools yet some of their problems may be the same. Schools may have similar problems depending upon such things as size, geographical location, prosperity of the community, industry of the community, nationwide economic conditions, and races or nationalities in the community. The administration, supervision, organization, and …
Temperature Conditions Existing In A Diffusion Type Cloud Chamber, Vance D. Vandervelde
Temperature Conditions Existing In A Diffusion Type Cloud Chamber, Vance D. Vandervelde
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
There are many types of detectors of radioactive rays, such as Geiger Counters, ionization chambers, photographic emulsions, electroscopes, and cloud chambers. Many of these give only information such as the amount of radiation or the minimum energy of the rays because the information is registered as a change in voltage or a “count”. Outstanding among the different kinds of detectors is the type commonly called “cloud chambers”. In a cloud chamber the path of the ray* can actually be seen and photographed, its radius of curvature in an electric or magnetic field can be measured, the amount of ionization can …

Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The less talented pupils are being eliminated from the schools and caused to meet adult problems without adequate preparation due to the unflexible definition entertained of what constitutes an education. Efforts to achieve a high level of scholarship have been causing schools to be more selective than they should according to the spirit of the public school laws. The discouraged low-ability pupil tends to drop out of school at a lower grade level than would have been necessary providing the school programs were more adaptable to the individual differences of pupils. Schools have had a tendency to attempt to prepare …
