The Design Of Reinforced Concrete Buildings To Resist Earthquake Forces, John A. Bonell Jan 1950

The Design Of Reinforced Concrete Buildings To Resist Earthquake Forces, John A. Bonell

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

There does not exist to today, and perhaps there never will be, any known method of predicting the location and time at which an earthquake will occur. Neither can we predict the maximum intensity that earthquakes in any given locality will bring. Hence the practicing structural engineer is constantly faced with the problem of deciding how much , if any seismic force to include when designing any particular structure , and from the economic viewpoint, how often will this force occur. At present, he will of course be guided by the particular building code of the area in which he …

Survey Of Veteran Attitudes And Opinions Relative To Their Education At South Dakota State College, Lewis J. Menzel Jan 1950

Survey Of Veteran Attitudes And Opinions Relative To Their Education At South Dakota State College, Lewis J. Menzel

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Many people have adopted peculiar ideas as to the attitudes and opinions of veterans who are attending colleges under the government program, which is commonly called the G.I. Bill. This report of a veterans study which was carried on during the registration for spring quarter of the 1947-1948 school year at South Dakota State College located at Brookings, South Dakota. It is hoped that these findings may be of some value in straightening out those individuals, giving them a clearer picture of the attitudes and opinions of veterans, and especially of those attending South Dakota State College.

A Study Of A Fused Course In Physics And Chemistry For Watertown High School, Gerhart C. Hertz, Merle T. Meinicke Jan 1950

A Study Of A Fused Course In Physics And Chemistry For Watertown High School, Gerhart C. Hertz, Merle T. Meinicke

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The writers had in mind the modification of the present science curriculum in the Watertown High School. In doing this, they sought the answers to the following questions: Can physics and chemistry be fused into a one-year course for pupils who do not enroll in the conventional physics and chemistry classes? Will such a course be feasible and workable? What content will be included? How will it be taught? How will the laboratory work be handled? Can it be adapted to the interests and ability levels of the pupils? Will the achievement of the pupils in this fused course be …

A Study Of The Relation Of The South Dakota High-School Scholastic Contest Scores And Marks In A South Dakota High School, Bernard Dahlen Jan 1950

A Study Of The Relation Of The South Dakota High-School Scholastic Contest Scores And Marks In A South Dakota High School, Bernard Dahlen

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The purpose of the study is to make a comparison between the achievements of the seniors of Hartford High School, Hartford, South Dakota, and the average achievement of the seniors of South Dakota by use of the Preliminary High-School Scholastic Contest as distributed by the University of South Dakota under the direction of Dr. Wm. H. Batson. The particular questions raised in the problem are:

l. What relationship exists between the marks received by individual high-school seniors in the Preliminary High-School Contest for the years 1948 and 1949 and their high-school mean marks in each of the four subject fields? …

Transient Voltage And Current Amplitudes In Inductively Coupled Circuits, Robert A. Heartz Jan 1950

Transient Voltage And Current Amplitudes In Inductively Coupled Circuits, Robert A. Heartz

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

When two circuits are so placed that energy may be transferred from one to the other they are said to be coupled. If the coupling is obtained by a circuit element (resistor, capacitor or coil) common to both circuits the coupling is direct. If the circuits are linked only by a magnetic field the coupling is called inductive. This paper will concern itself only with inductively coupled circuits. The steady state characteristics of this network are, a high gain and good frequency selectivity. Thus it finds extensive use in communication work. There are many texts which give excellent analyses of …

A Study Of The Conditions Affecting Costs Of Delivering Electricity To Rural Areas Through Central-Station Service, Frank Wiersma Jan 1950

A Study Of The Conditions Affecting Costs Of Delivering Electricity To Rural Areas Through Central-Station Service, Frank Wiersma

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

A limiting factor of installing electric power on farms, especially in the more thinly populated areas, is the initial and annual cost of providing this electricity. In view of this fact, this study has been made to determine the costs of various methods of providing electrical power to these farms and the various physical and economic factors that have an effect on these costs. Some farm operators, when considering the instillation of electricity, look only at the cost without considering the benefits and increased financial returns. Some operators, on the other hand, can see only the benefits of electricity without …

Effect Of Wind Variation On Distribution Pattern Of Slow Revolving Sprinkler Heads, John L. Wiersma Jan 1950

Effect Of Wind Variation On Distribution Pattern Of Slow Revolving Sprinkler Heads, John L. Wiersma

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Sprinkler irrigation has been practiced for the last several decades; it is not a new or special method of irrigation. Its use on other than specialized and garden crops has spread very rapidly during recent years. Several factors may have helped bring about this change. Some of the more important are:
1. The realization of the detrimental effects of short drought periods during the growing season even in comparatively wet years.
2. The availability of improved irrigation equipment.
3. The desire of farmers to eliminate weather risks in the production of high income farm products.
4. news articles on Missouri …
