An Analysis Of Current Printing Programs At Southern Negro Universities And Colleges Granting The Bachelor Of Science Degree, By Ford Ratcliff Feb 1963

An Analysis Of Current Printing Programs At Southern Negro Universities And Colleges Granting The Bachelor Of Science Degree, By Ford Ratcliff

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Constant evaluation is necessary to determine whether or not an education curriculum is serving the purpose for which it was designed. Curriculum construction is the result of the efforts of one man or a staff of men, usually based upon his or their experience in the field. Because of this fact, the resulting curriculum may be inadequate for the total development of the student in the area of his education. Little, if any, study has been made of Negro universities and colleges with reference to general curricula for printing programs found in such institutions. It is the purpose of this …

Solar-Supplemental Heat Drying Of Shelled Corn In Storage, William Henry Peterson Feb 1963

Solar-Supplemental Heat Drying Of Shelled Corn In Storage, William Henry Peterson

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The availability of solar energy on common types of surfaces of farm grain storages available for solar heat collection was analyzed. The objectives of this study were as follows: (1) to analyze different collector designs, shapes, and orientations, using available information to develop comparisons, (2) to develop design criteria for solar drying systems which could be applied to farm-size storages, using information developed by previous investigators, (3) to build and test these design criteria into experimental drying bins, comparing results in drying shelled corn by these three methods of operation, conventional supplemental heat, solar heat with humidistat blower control, and …

The Effect Of Organic Trenching On Grain Yields, Soil Moisture And Root Penetration On Claypan Soils In South Dakota, Quentin S. Kingsley Jan 1963

The Effect Of Organic Trenching On Grain Yields, Soil Moisture And Root Penetration On Claypan Soils In South Dakota, Quentin S. Kingsley

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The impervious nature of claypan soils decreases the rate of water infiltration, air exchange, and root penetration. As a result, these soils are recognized as “problem soils” by farmers and research workers because of the associated tillage difficulties and low crop yields. Several methods or approaches have been devised in an attempt to overcome this inherent handicap to crop production. The methods presently used are most often centered around the planting of legumes in a crop rotation or the use of a subsoiler to mechanically break up the claypan. The purpose of this study was to measure the effect of …

The Effect Of Cycling Moisture Content On The Lateral Load Carrying Capacity Of Three Member Nailed Wood Joints, Conrad Brian Gilbertson Jan 1963

The Effect Of Cycling Moisture Content On The Lateral Load Carrying Capacity Of Three Member Nailed Wood Joints, Conrad Brian Gilbertson

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

This study was designed to investigate the effect of cyclic moisture changes on the strength of three member nailed wood joints. The construction material used consisted of Douglas fir construction grade 2-inch by 4-inch main members and splice plates of 3/8-inch and 5/8-inch exterior Douglas fir plywood. Nails were placed in single shear and double shear with the two sizes of splice plates. Nail sizes were 6d bright common, 8d bright common, and 8d bright ring shank. Specimens with various combinations of splice plate thickness and nail sizes were constructed with single shear and double shear being considered. The specimens …

A Comparison Of Attitudes Of Male Students Toward Required Physical Education At South Dakota State College :1963 And 1959, Robert L. Thurness Jan 1963

A Comparison Of Attitudes Of Male Students Toward Required Physical Education At South Dakota State College :1963 And 1959, Robert L. Thurness

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Physical education has been accepted by the majority of institutions of higher learning as an integral part in the college curriculum. The physical education instructor has a major task of guiding the individual student as a person whose feelings, attitudes, knowledge, skills, understandings, and values are influenced by his physical education experience. Physical education instructors have placed great emphasis on the learning of skills in a physical education class and during the learning of a skill there are many other learning experiences taking place that are overlooked. It is the learner, not the teacher, who controls the learning situation and …

The Installation And Operation Of A Creep Testing Machine To Determine Its Operating Characteristics, Lawrence L. Hansen Jan 1963

The Installation And Operation Of A Creep Testing Machine To Determine Its Operating Characteristics, Lawrence L. Hansen

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

When designing any kind of structure or machine for high temperature operation, the engineer has to consider the effects of creep. In steam and gas turbines, for example, the rotor blades are subjected to high stresses by centrifugal force and to elevated temperatures by high pressure steam or hot gases. The combination of high stress and temperature causes a plastic deformation in the blades. This deformation, known as creep, occurs in all metals under the appropriate temperature and stress conditions, though some metals are more resistant to it than others. It is practically undesirable to employ a design so low …
