This investigation into the Johannine pericopes in Greek lectionary /11 72 seeks to discover the textual character of twenty-four pericopes, with reference to five text-types, and to provide answers to three questions: (1) Do any of the Johannine pericopes in l1172 show affinity with an identifiable Caesarean text-type? (2) Is there a connecting link between the Caesarean and Byzantine text-types? (3) What part does the lectionary play in this connection?
Extensions Of The Cayley-Hamilton Theorem With Applications To Elliptic Operators And Frames., Alberto Mokak Teguia
Extensions Of The Cayley-Hamilton Theorem With Applications To Elliptic Operators And Frames., Alberto Mokak Teguia
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The Cayley-Hamilton Theorem is an important result in the study of linear transformations over finite dimensional vector spaces. In this thesis, we show that the Cayley-Hamilton Theorem can be extended to self-adjoint trace-class operators and to closed self-adjoint operators with trace-class resolvent over a separable Hilbert space. Applications of these results include calculating operators resolvents and finding the inverse of a frame operator.

Role Of Zmpste24 In Prelamin A Maturation., Douglas Paul Corrigan
Role Of Zmpste24 In Prelamin A Maturation., Douglas Paul Corrigan
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The nuclear lamins form a karyoskeleton providing structural rigidity to the nucleus. One member of the lamin family, lamin A, is first synthesized as a 74 kDa precursor, prelamin A. Following the endopeptidase and methylation reactions which occur after farnesylation of the CAAX-box cysteine, there is a second endoproteolysis that occurs 15 amino acids upstream from the C-terminal farnesylated cysteine residue. Studies with knockout mice have implicated the enzyme Zmpste24 as a candidate to carry out one or both of these proteolytic reactions. In this body of work, the CAAX endopeptidase activity of recombinant, membrane reconstituted, Zmpste24 is demonstrated using …

Cell Toxicology Study Of Rrr-Alpha-Tocopheryl Polyethylene Glycol 1000 Succinate (Tpgs)., Clarisse Sornsay Muenyi
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
This research focused on the cytotoxic properties of RRR-alpha-tocopheryl polyethylene glycol 1000 succinate (TPGS) in transformed and cancerous cell lines. We used RAW264.7 macrophage and prostate cancer (LNCaP) cell lines in this study. TPGS caused cell death and decreased cell viability in a dose and time dependent manner. Cell death was evaluated fluorimetrically by employing the nucleic acid-binding fluorophore; propidium iodide. A colorimetric 3-(4, 5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2, 5-diphenyl tetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay was used to evaluate cell viability. Cell death can occur through necrosis or apoptosis. Our results suggested that TPGS triggered apoptotic cell death. Induction of apoptosis, as measured by caspase …

Cell Toxicity And Uptake Of Rrr-Alpha-Tocopheryl Polyethylene Glycol 1000 Succinate (Tpgs) By Various Cell Ines In Vitro., Christelle Komguem Kamga
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
This research focused on investigating and comparing the cytotoxicity and cellular uptake of RRR-alpha-tocopheryl polyethylene glycol succinate (TPGS, with that of alpha-tocopheryl succinate (α-TS). Both TPGS and α-TS are water-soluble forms of vitamin E with important clinical applications. Cytotoxicity assays with RAW 264.7 and LNCaP cells incubated overnight with TPGS or α-TS at concentrations ≥ 12.4 μM suggest that α-TS is more cytotoxic than TPGS. Macrophages were found to be more sensitive than LNCaP cells when treated with similar concentrations of α-TS. For both cell lines, most of the TPGS or α-TS taken up remained esterified after 24 hours. Our …

Isolation, Purification, And Chemical Characterization Of The Dihydroxamate-Type Siderophore, "Schizokinen," Produced By Rhizobium Leguminosarum Iari 917., Erin P. Storey
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Iron is essential to the majority of microorganisms; it is an important cofactor in many cellular processes and enzymes. However in an aerobic environment and at biological pH, iron is primarily found as insoluble oxyhydroxides and is unavailable to microorganisms. Many bacteria have the ability to produce siderophores, low molecular weight compounds that have a high affinity for Fe3+. Siderophores are part of a multi-component system that actively transports the iron-siderophore complex into the cytoplasm. Rhizobia are characterized by their ability to form symbiotic relationships with leguminous plants, where they can fix nitrogen for the host plant and …
The Tension Between Art And Science In Historical Writing., Michael Lee Depew
The Tension Between Art And Science In Historical Writing., Michael Lee Depew
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
A perennial question in the philosophy of history is whether history is a science or an art. This thesis contests that this question constitutes a false dichotomy, limiting the discussion in such a way as to exclude other possibilities of understanding the nature of the historical task.
The speculative philosophies of Augustine, Kant, and Marx; the critical philosophies of Ranke, Comte along with the later positivist, and the historical idealist such as Collingwood will be surveyed. History is then examined along side art to discuss not only the similarities but, the differences.
Major similarities—narrative presentation, emplotation, and the selective nature …
Defining The Mechanisms Of Neutrophil Exocytosis Using Proteomic Techniques., George Lominadze 1978-
Defining The Mechanisms Of Neutrophil Exocytosis Using Proteomic Techniques., George Lominadze 1978-
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Exocytosis of intracellular granules is critical for conversion of inactive, circulating neutrophils to fully activated cells. The p38 MAPK pathway plays a central role in neutrophil exocytosis, although its mechanism of action is unknown. We used several proteomic approaches to identify granule proteins and find targets of the p38 MAPK and its downstream kinase, MK2, on granules. Our analysis identified 286 proteins on neutrophil granules, four of which were known MK2 substrates. Known p38 substrates were not detected. However, MRP-14 was identified as a novel p38 MAPK substrate. MRP-14 was phosphorylated by p38 MAPK in neutrophils upon cell stimulation and …
Towards A Scalable And Efficient Data Classification Technique., Fadi Samih Omar Mehanna
Towards A Scalable And Efficient Data Classification Technique., Fadi Samih Omar Mehanna
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Data Classification is a task that could be found in many life activities. In general, the term could be used for any activity that derives some decision or forecast based on the currently available information. Using a more accurate definition, a classification procedure is the construction of some kind of a method for making judgments for a continuing sequence of cases, where each new case must be assigned to one of pre-defined classes. This type of construction has been termed supervised learning, in order to distinguish it from unsupervised learning or clustering in which the classes are not pre-defined but …

Cost Effective Human Protein C Purification From Cohn Fraction Iv-1 Using Mini-Antibody., Doh Gyeuhn Ahn 1969-
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Protein C (PC) is an important anticoagulant, antithrombotic, and antiinflammatory in blood plasma. PC deficiency can lead to severe venous thrombotic events, including lung embolism, stroke, and heart attack. In the body, PC is activated only when it is needed, and, therefore, PC does not cause bleeding problems that currently available anticoagulants may do. Purification of PC from plasma is currently done by immunoaffinity chromatography using monoclonal antibodies (Mabs), which is very expensive. Single chain variable regions (mini-Mab) with a PC binding capability, which can be produced in recombinant E. coli , were developed for PC purification. Compared to Mabs, …

Synthesis And Characterization Of Polymer Nanofibers Produced By Emulsion Polymerization, Suxiang Wei
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Surfactants in aqueous media can form a variety of microstructures such as micelles of various geometries, emulsions, microemulsions and vesicles. Cetyltrimethylammonium p-toluene sulfate (CTAT) has been found to cause large increases in solution viscosity in certain concentration ranges. This phenomenon has been ascribed to the formation of wormlike micelles. Using this, we have synthesized polystyrene nanofibers by emulsion polymerization in wormlike CTAT admicelles in the presence of added sodium chloride (NaCl). Polystyrene nanofibers approximately 3 µm in length and 20~ 60 nanometers in width, were created by emulsion polymerization at 50°C for ten hours using 2, 2’-azobis-isobutyrInitrile initiator. The impact …

Survival Model And Estimation For Lung Cancer Patients., Xingchen Yuan
Survival Model And Estimation For Lung Cancer Patients., Xingchen Yuan
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Lung cancer is the most frequent fatal cancer in the United States. Following the notion in actuarial math analysis, we assume an exponential form for the baseline hazard function and combine Cox proportional hazard regression for the survival study of a group of lung cancer patients. The covariates in the hazard function are estimated by maximum likelihood estimation following the proportional hazards regression analysis. Although the proportional hazards model does not give an explicit baseline hazard function, the baseline hazard function can be estimated by fitting the data with a non-linear least square technique. The survival model is then examined …
Does Joint Attention Mediate The Relationship Between Temperament And Language?, Brenda J. Salley
Does Joint Attention Mediate The Relationship Between Temperament And Language?, Brenda J. Salley
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Individual differences in child temperament have been associated with individual differences in language development; similarly, relationships have been separately reported among temperament, language and early nonverbal social communication (joint attention). The present study examined the relationship between temperament and language, in the context of joint attention as an underlying developmental variable mediating this association. Temperament, language and joint attention were assessed in 51 Appalachian 21-month-old toddlers. Results indicate a relationship between aspects of temperamental difficulty, including low executive control and high negative affect, and low language. A relationship was also found between temperament and joint attention, such that aspects of …

Using Domination To Analyze Rna Structures., Travis Reves Coake
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Understanding RNA molecules is important to genomics research. Recently researchers at the Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences used graph theory to model RNA molecules and provided a database of trees representing possible secondary RNA structures. In this thesis we use domination parameters to predict which trees are more likely to exist in nature as RNA structures. This approach appears to have promise in graph theory applications in genomics research.
