Measurement Of Vertical And Horizontal Hydraulic Conductivities On An Undisturbed Soil Core, R. Kent Anderson
Measurement Of Vertical And Horizontal Hydraulic Conductivities On An Undisturbed Soil Core, R. Kent Anderson
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Permeability is the physical property of soil which enables it to pass or conduct air or water through is macropores. This should not be confused with the infiltration rate, a term expressing the rate at which water will enter the soil surface. Whereas the infiltration rate is influenced by the hydraulic slope, permeability is not (12, p. 153)*. A term which is often confused with permeability is hydraulic conductivity. Hydraulic conductivity is a velocity term, or (L/T), expressing the rate at which a fluid passes through the soil. The specific need for hydraulic conductivity and permeability measurements is to determine …

A Modified Prill And Hammer Method Used In The Study Of Diacetyl Production By Single Strain Lactic Streptococci, Burdell D. Alfke
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
A dicarbonyl compound, 2, 3-butanedione, commonly referred to as diacetyl or biacetyl, is considered by many to be-an important flavor constituent of butter and butter cultures. Milk fat has no natural diacetyl content and in the past the diacetyl found in butter resulted from bacterial fermentation of the cream before churning. In recent years commercial lactic cultures have been used, which are added to the fat granules before ''working" of the butter. Bacterial cultures used by the dairy industry generally consist of a mixture of two streptococcus types. A homofermentative type produces primarily lactic acid from the lactose of milk. …
The Programed Approach To The Teaching Of Remedial Grammar, Janice Slupe Kleen
The Programed Approach To The Teaching Of Remedial Grammar, Janice Slupe Kleen
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The primary purpose of this study was to assess the effectiveness of using a programed textbook and multiple tests in the teaching of remedial grammar at South Dakota State University. During the Fall Semester of 1965 and again during the Fall Semester of 1966, programing was used to help incoming freshmen deficient in English eliminate their major weaknesses in understanding grammar and in recognizing basic principles of usage and punctuation. In assessing the effectiveness of these presentations, the results of various testing instruments used in each presentation were studied. In addition, the study investigated the relationship between the scores on …

Study Of Totipotency In The Leaf Cells Of The Carrot Plant, Ch'i Sun
Study Of Totipotency In The Leaf Cells Of The Carrot Plant, Ch'i Sun
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Studies of the totipotency of cells of various parts of carrot tissues and organ formation by the cultivated carrot leaf cells have been made in this investigation. It is believed that each matured cell, even though appearances differ from cell to cell, still contains the whole set of genes as in a zygote. The differences in appearance are due to the functional genes. This potential of the matured cells to go back to the zygote state is called totipotency. Theoretically, if certain stimuli were applied to force these nonfunctional genes to become functional, all these cells may behave in the …
