A Study Of The Relation Of The South Dakota High-School Scholastic Contest Scores And Marks In A South Dakota High School, Bernard Dahlen Jan 1950

A Study Of The Relation Of The South Dakota High-School Scholastic Contest Scores And Marks In A South Dakota High School, Bernard Dahlen

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The purpose of the study is to make a comparison between the achievements of the seniors of Hartford High School, Hartford, South Dakota, and the average achievement of the seniors of South Dakota by use of the Preliminary High-School Scholastic Contest as distributed by the University of South Dakota under the direction of Dr. Wm. H. Batson. The particular questions raised in the problem are:

l. What relationship exists between the marks received by individual high-school seniors in the Preliminary High-School Contest for the years 1948 and 1949 and their high-school mean marks in each of the four subject fields? …

Transient Voltage And Current Amplitudes In Inductively Coupled Circuits, Robert A. Heartz Jan 1950

Transient Voltage And Current Amplitudes In Inductively Coupled Circuits, Robert A. Heartz

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

When two circuits are so placed that energy may be transferred from one to the other they are said to be coupled. If the coupling is obtained by a circuit element (resistor, capacitor or coil) common to both circuits the coupling is direct. If the circuits are linked only by a magnetic field the coupling is called inductive. This paper will concern itself only with inductively coupled circuits. The steady state characteristics of this network are, a high gain and good frequency selectivity. Thus it finds extensive use in communication work. There are many texts which give excellent analyses of …

A Study Of Diffusion In Distillation., Joseph G. Duffey Jun 1949

A Study Of Diffusion In Distillation., Joseph G. Duffey

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

A study of the mass transfer phenomena in fractional distillation was made. Small scale single slot, single cap apparatus was used to obtain the necessary experimental data.

The mass transfer coefficient KgA was calculated using several combinations of liquid and vapor compositions in the menthanol - water system under static liquid conditions. The correlation showed that KgA held about constant over the entire range of concentrations.

The problem of bubble area was studied and reasonable estimations of area, bubble frequency, and time of rise were made. This information is to be incorporated into the calculation of the mass transfer coefficient …

Separation Of The Selenium Compounds In Seleniferous Plant Protein Hydrolysates By Paper Partition Chromatography, Arnold L. Smith Jan 1949

Separation Of The Selenium Compounds In Seleniferous Plant Protein Hydrolysates By Paper Partition Chromatography, Arnold L. Smith

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

In 1943 Franke reported that the protein of "allolied" or "toxic" wheat carried the toxicant, and Franke and Painter in 1935 reported that those "toxic" proteins contained selenium which was in organic combination in the protein. There has been much speculation regarding the possibility of selenium replacing sulfur in the amino acids cysteine and methionine. The toxicity of selenium in selenium analogs of these compounds is similar to that of selenium occurring naturally in proteins seleniferous cereals, which indicated that the selenium may be present in the proteins as the analogue of these sulfur amino acids.

An Amplidyne Voltage Regulator, Junis Oliver Storry Jan 1949

An Amplidyne Voltage Regulator, Junis Oliver Storry

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Many electrical devices are given voltage ratings. Although the performance of a device may be considered satisfactory at some voltage other than rated, this performance may be quite different from that intended. Incandescent lamps, heating appliances, and electric motors are common devices, the performances of which can be checked easily at various voltages.
