Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The problem of encouraging pupils to remain in high school until graduation is of major importance not only to the schools but the community as well. It has been said that the public schools, and especially the secondary schools, have continued to be highly selective institutions. Adjustments within the school have not, in many cases, kept pace with changing school enrollments. Today we find a widely divergent student body necessitating wider ranges of experience to meet the needs of these individuals if we are to keep them in school until graduation. The schools, charged with the responsibility of preparing youth …

Itaconic Acid Derivatives Of Sulfanilamide And Sulfone, Malcolm J. Thompson Jan 1952

Itaconic Acid Derivatives Of Sulfanilamide And Sulfone, Malcolm J. Thompson

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

This thesis, submitted to Xavier University in partial fulfillment of requirements for a Maters degree in chemistry in 1952, reports the synthesis and characterization of itaconic acid derivatives of sulfanilamide and amino phenyl sulfone compounds. The research describes reaction procedures and the isolation and purification of a series of novel chemical compounds, with experimental data including melting points, percent yields, elemental analysis, and molecular weights reported for numerous derivatives. The thesis presents conclusions regarding the chemical properties and reactivity of the synthesized compounds.

The Spieker Circle And Certain Related Configurations, Berthola Elmo Lumzy Jan 1952

The Spieker Circle And Certain Related Configurations, Berthola Elmo Lumzy

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

This thesis, presented to the Department of Mathematics at Xavier University in partial fulfillment of requirements for the degree of Master of Arts in 1952, examines the Spieker circle, a circle inscribed in the median triangle of a given triangle, and extends its defining properties to related geometric configurations. Lumzy first establishes a series of analogies between the Spieker circle and the nine-point circle, demonstrating parallel relationships involving radius, center, harmonic conjugates, and homothetic centers relative to the incenter, median point, and Nagel point of a triangle.

The thesis then proves that the Spieker circle is inscribed in two congruent …

Digestion Studies With Sheep And Wild Antelope On A Sagebrush Ration, Paul Harold Kohler Jan 1950

Digestion Studies With Sheep And Wild Antelope On A Sagebrush Ration, Paul Harold Kohler

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Introduction: Those who are responsible for the management of antelope, range livestock, and the range seek to maintain such a balance that al may thrive and reproduce. This is inevitably a difficult objective since the balance in numbers of antelope and livestock may be changed annually, but range flora changes only in long-time cycles. Therefore, the balance between the wild and domestic species and the range must be adjusted frequently by range and livestock management. The adjustment of the number of domestic animals to fit the carrying capacity of the range may be accomplished by changing management and marketing practices …
