Autobiography Of Proteins In Nutrients, Marguerite Jones

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

This thesis, submitted to Xavier University in 1933, surveys the chemical classification of proteins and their role in human nutrition, with the stated aim of preparing home economics students to understand protein's function in the diet. Jones organizes proteins into three major classes: simple proteins, including albumins, globulins, glutelins, protamins, and histones; conjugated proteins, including nucleo-proteins, glyco-proteins, phospho-proteins, and hemoglobins; and derived proteins, including albumoses, peptones, and peptids, describing the chemical composition, solubility properties, and sources of each.

The thesis then examines amino acids as the end products of protein digestion, identifying those essential for growth and maintenance, including tryptophane, …

Social Adjustments Of Physically Handicapped Persons, Marie Van Maanen

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Life is a series of adjustments to environments, and he who is most versatile in making adjustments is likely to be the first to climb the ladder to success. "Success does not consist in achieving a certain standards. It does consist in living up to the limit of one's abilities. If such is the case then it behooves each individual, no matter what his inherited mental capacity or his physical prowess, to make the most of his environment. He who has been deprived of some of his physical faculties has a greater task of adjustment to his environment than the …

The Household Budget, Inez Pepin

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

This thesis, submitted to Xavier University in partial fulfillment of requirements for a Bachelor of Arts degree in Home Economics in 1931, examines the household budget as a system for managing family income during a period of national economic crisis. The Madrigal., Frank B. Martin Jan 1930

The Madrigal., Frank B. Martin

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The madrigal is the oldest of concerted secular forms. It had its origin in northern Italy, perhaps as early as the twelfth century. The early compositions had none of the elaborate devices which characterize the madrigals of the sixteenth century. Francesco di Landino, (1325-1390), an Italian, and the leading musician of the Florentine school of his time, wrote a madrigal, Tu che l'opera d'altrul, an extract of which appears in Fellowes' English Madrigal (1) Composers. Landino's life is interesting. He was blind from youth, but was organist for many years in the church of San Lorenzo in Florence. His madrigal …
