Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The problem of encouraging pupils to remain in high school until graduation is of major importance not only to the schools but the community as well. It has been said that the public schools, and especially the secondary schools, have continued to be highly selective institutions. Adjustments within the school have not, in many cases, kept pace with changing school enrollments. Today we find a widely divergent student body necessitating wider ranges of experience to meet the needs of these individuals if we are to keep them in school until graduation. The schools, charged with the responsibility of preparing youth …

Chemical Analysis Of Atmospheric Dust., Robert Patrick Mccarthy
Chemical Analysis Of Atmospheric Dust., Robert Patrick Mccarthy
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The chemical analysis of atmospheric dust is of interest to two major groups, namely—the workers in industrial hygiene and the workers in the air cleaning and ventilating industries. The industrial hygienists, who are concerned with the prevention of occupational diseases and the maintenance of the health of industrial workers on a high level, are mainly interested in the concentration of irritating dusts and allergy-producing dusts that would obviously affect the health or comfort of industrial workers. Their interest, as one would expect, is in atmospheric dust of small particle sizes (10 microns and smaller), and in gaseous substances which they …

A Financial Summary And An Enrollment-Trend Survey Of The Colman Independent School For The Ten-Year Period For School Year 1939-1940 Through Year 1948-1949, H. W. Woodward
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The purpose of this study is to show the financial condition of the Colman Independent School, the change in the elementary and high-school enrollments, and the costs per pupil over the ten-year period, 1940 to 1949. As educational theory and practice have attempted to adjust themselves to, and keep abreast of a rapidly changing social order, the scope of education, as measured by the number of children and the cost of educating them, has increased and the school has assumed a different role in the training of youth than it formerly did. The organization of a school must be responsive …

Survey Of Veteran Attitudes And Opinions Relative To Their Education At South Dakota State College, Lewis J. Menzel
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Many people have adopted peculiar ideas as to the attitudes and opinions of veterans who are attending colleges under the government program, which is commonly called the G.I. Bill. This report of a veterans study which was carried on during the registration for spring quarter of the 1947-1948 school year at South Dakota State College located at Brookings, South Dakota. It is hoped that these findings may be of some value in straightening out those individuals, giving them a clearer picture of the attitudes and opinions of veterans, and especially of those attending South Dakota State College.
A Study Of A Fused Course In Physics And Chemistry For Watertown High School, Gerhart C. Hertz, Merle T. Meinicke
A Study Of A Fused Course In Physics And Chemistry For Watertown High School, Gerhart C. Hertz, Merle T. Meinicke
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The writers had in mind the modification of the present science curriculum in the Watertown High School. In doing this, they sought the answers to the following questions: Can physics and chemistry be fused into a one-year course for pupils who do not enroll in the conventional physics and chemistry classes? Will such a course be feasible and workable? What content will be included? How will it be taught? How will the laboratory work be handled? Can it be adapted to the interests and ability levels of the pupils? Will the achievement of the pupils in this fused course be …
Influence Of Winter Housing Conditions On Growth Rates And Feed Consumption Of Dairy Heifers, Emery H. Bartle
Influence Of Winter Housing Conditions On Growth Rates And Feed Consumption Of Dairy Heifers, Emery H. Bartle
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
It is important in dairy cattle management to maintain steady and continuous growth of heifers and thereby secure properly developed cows which will give the production that is expected of them when they are brought into the milking herd. In general, heifer calves during the first twelve months of their growing period are carefully managed as to feed, housing and care to promote normal growth. However, they are often neglected during their yearling stage to the point where growth is retarded because of environment factors. On many dairy farms in the North Central States the management of yearling dairy heifers …
