Cattle feeders and ranchers of South Dakota winter and fatten a great number of cattle on harvested grasses and legumes. The forages are stored for winter feeding both as hay and as silage. Alfalfa is one of the important crops in both the eastern and western portions of the state. The use of alfalfa, particularly as silage, in cattle feeding is increasing. This has raised many questions regarding the efficiency of alfalfa silage in relation to hay. A number of experiments have been conducted at various stations in which the feeding value of grass and/or legume silage has been compared …

The less talented pupils are being eliminated from the schools and caused to meet adult problems without adequate preparation due to the unflexible definition entertained of what constitutes an education. Efforts to achieve a high level of scholarship have been causing schools to be more selective than they should according to the spirit of the public school laws. The discouraged low-ability pupil tends to drop out of school at a lower grade level than would have been necessary providing the school programs were more adaptable to the individual differences of pupils. Jeffers, with a population of five hundred and sixteen, is situated in the heart of some of Minnesota’s riches agricultural land. It is located in the center of Cottonwood County in southwestern Minnesota near the junction of state highway number 47 and U.S. highway number 71. Windom, the county seat of Cottonwood County, is located sixteen miles to the south. The South Dakota border is sixty miles to the west and the Iowa border is forty five miles to the south. A Comparative Study Of The Scholastic Ability Of South Dakota High School Seniors In Their Self-Selected Occupational Groups As Evidenced By The State-Wide Ace Test Results In 1952, Guy O. Karnes

The major study was to discover the general character of fourteen selected groups from the high-school seniors of South Dakota who took the ACE tests and filled in the personal data in the Fall of 1952. Eleven of these groups were occupations; one group was those who indicated college academic majors; one group was made up of those boys and girls who put in some form of military service as their "tentative occupational choice," and the final one was composed of those boys and girls who gave no vocational choice.
