Effects Of B Vitamin Deficiencies On Energy Metabolism Of The Chick, William Clarence Lockhart Jan 1965

Effects Of B Vitamin Deficiencies On Energy Metabolism Of The Chick, William Clarence Lockhart

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Approximately two decades ago Robertson et al. (1948) reported that high-energy diets supported faster growth of young chicks with an improvement in feeding efficiency. This seemed to open an era in poultry nutrition in which much work was conducted in order to establish the quantitative relationships between dietary energy levels and nutrients. With current emphasis on the energy content of the diet, a knowledge of those factors which interfere with the most efficient utilization of energy is important. Nutritional imbalance was shown by Sure (1941) to decrease the net energy or productive energy content of the diet. The B complex …

An Inquiry Into The Acceptability Of Unjustified Composition And Omission Of Column Rules To Newspaper Readers, Karl E. Ruthenbeck Jan 1965

An Inquiry Into The Acceptability Of Unjustified Composition And Omission Of Column Rules To Newspaper Readers, Karl E. Ruthenbeck

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

For several decades every conceivable cost item in newspaper production has been scrutinized to squeeze out a few pennies of savings here and there. Page shrinkage has been increased, column measures reduced, margins out, composing machines speeded up, teletype setters and computers introduced all for the purpose of cutting costs. Concurrently with the need for reduced costs, some editors feel the need for increased readability and a change in the appearance of their newspapers. Experimentation has been taking place in using the unjustified line (uneven right hand margins) as a means of moving toward the objectives of lower costs and …

A Study Of The Food Practices, Economic Position, And Conception Of Health On The Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, Kenneth H. Skogen Jan 1965

A Study Of The Food Practices, Economic Position, And Conception Of Health On The Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, Kenneth H. Skogen

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The Teton Dakota Indians of the northern Great Plains have stirred the imagination of the people in America since they were first encountered by the early explorers. The frontiersmen found them living in the woodlands of the western Great Lakes where they were settled farmers. A century of warfare between the Chippewa and the Dakotas finally came to an end when the former group had occupied the woodland farms of northern Minnesota and the latter had migrated on to the plains. After wandering and fighting as they retreated westward, the Teton Dakotas were gradually transformed from peaceful woodsmen into skilled …

A Study Of The Present Status Of Physical Education Facilities For Women In The Institutions Of The South Dakota College Physical Education Association, Harold Robert Mansheim

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The administration and conduct of the modern physical education program for college women involves the supplying and maintaining of adequate facilities. The author is convinced that the program content should be based upon the needs and interests of the students. If future teachers are to be capable of conducting broad programs that truly meet the needs and interests of their students, the physical education major curriculum must be comprehensive in its scope. Adequate facilities make a vital contribution to a favorable learning environment. Physiologists and physical educators agree that benefits are derived from participation in physical education programs. As a …

A Social System Analysis Of The Changing Food Practices Of The Teton Dakota Indians, 1800-1900, Norma R. Seerley

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Food is a necessary element for satisfying a basic need of man. Without it, man could not exist. All of these foods have caloric values and vitamin content, and all are available to the various societies. A society also defines the purpose and emphasis to be given food. It may be a means for stilling hunger or getting nutrition; it may regard eating as a duty or virtue, or as a gustatory pleasure, or even as a social or religious communion. The Dakota’s choice of foods was originally fashioned by the kinds of foods available. Through recordings in history, the …

The Results Of One Year Of Counseling And Tutoring On Two Seventh Grade Adjusted Curriculum Illiterates, Janet Broomfield Boone

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The purpose of this study was to develop a technique whereby this adolescent nonreader of potentially average metal ability would be enabled to step from the shadow of illiteracy into enlightening experience of reading. Introspection preceded other investigation. The qualities of an effective teacher-counselor were restudied and reevaluated. Another purpose of this study was to determine the effect of an accepting, supportive atmosphere on the learning of illiterates of potentially average mental ability. Reading skills would be developed in a private one-to-one relationship where learning could be experienced by the pupil. The two subjects in this study had been previously …
