During the last two decades there has been considerable interest in the ability of copper to increase gains and feed efficiency when fed at high levels in swine rations. Several reports have indicated that copper is an effective …

The "Republic Of The Spirit" : Marital Love In Edith Wharton's The House Of Mirth, The Custom Of The Country, And The Age Of Innocence, Nancy Lee Preszler

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Edith Wharton's concern with the institution of marriage was both a personal and an artistic one. Her own marriage ended in divorce after many years of trying to nurse her husband through repeated attacks or mental illness. This marriage, not the ideal as far as Mrs. Wharton was concerned, was one of companionship but one lacking spiritual and intellectual satisfaction. The attitude which Mrs.Wharton gradually developed toward her own marriage and its failure is apparent in her fiction. This thesis has analyzed Edith Wharton's three major society novels, The House Mirth, The Custom of the Country, and The Age of …

A Pilot Plant Study To Determine The Treatability Of Combined Domestic And Milk Wastes In An Aerated Lagoon, Allen M. Vanden Hoek

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The milk processing industry commonly produces large quantities of high-strength waste. Frequently, a milk processing plant is located in a small agricultural community in which it is the only sizable industry. Because of this, the wastewater from the milk plant may cause overloading of the wastewater treatment facilities of the community. This situation exists in Volga, a small town in eastern South Dakota. The city of Volga, with an estimated 1967 population of 840, has been treating the domestic wastewater plus the industrial waste from the relatively large milk processing plant by utilizing a stabilization pond system. This type of …

Evaluation Of An Accoustical Ear Muff For Agricultural Tractor Operators, Harlin J. Trefz Feb 1969

Evaluation Of An Accoustical Ear Muff For Agricultural Tractor Operators, Harlin J. Trefz

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Agricultural tractor noise is a serious problem of vital concern for tractor operators. Work has been done at South Dakota State University and other institutions to reduce the noise level produced by the agricultural tractor by utilizing various exhaust control methods and insulating cabs. Acoustical ear muffs have not been evaluated as a noise control method. These ear muffs have great potential to offer immediate noise reduction for a very low cost. The objective of this study was to evaluate a commercial acoustical ear muff for use by farm tractor operators as a noise control method under field conditions.
