The Effects Of Calcium Hydroxide Treatment Of Sunflower Seeds On Ration Digestibility And Rumen Parameters In Holstein Steers, Ann C. Spearow
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Digestibilities of rations containing 10% (dry matter basis) oil-type, rolled sunflower seeds treated with three levels- of calcium hydroxide were compared using .a randomized complete block design. Forty-eight Holstein steers were fed one of six completely mixed rations consisting of (DM basis) 44% corn silage, 10% chopped alfalfa hay, and 46% concentrate mix. Concentrate mixes contained: CSM = control; SCS =control+ 22% sunflower seeds; SCL = SCS + 3.5% additional limestone; SCH2, SCH4, and SCH8 = SCS + 2, 4, and 8% calcium hydroxide (% sunflower seed DM), respectively. Total rations were isonitrogeneous at approximately 16% crude protein and isocaloric …
The Effects Of Selected Personal And Professional Factors On Nurses' Perceptions Of Self-Health, Constance L. Peterson
The Effects Of Selected Personal And Professional Factors On Nurses' Perceptions Of Self-Health, Constance L. Peterson
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The purpose of this study was to determine the affects of selected personal and professional factors on nurses' perceptions of self-health as evaluated by responses to a questionnaire designed for this study. A modification of the Health Belief Model, titled the Health Perception Model, served as the conceptual model for the study.
The sample consisted of 121 registered nurses employed at a 515-bed hospital in a rural Midwestern state. A descriptive correlational design was used.
The study posed thirteen null hypotheses predicting the influence of the variables (concern about health matters in general, subjective estimate of susceptibility to illness, age, …

The Effects Of A Circuit Weight Training Program On Body Composition, Muscular Endurance, And Muscular Strength In Untrained Females, Stephen M. Woodden
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The effects of a circuit weight training (CWT) program on body composition, muscular endurance, and muscular strength in untrained females were examined. Seventeen untrained female subjects volunteered for either the experimental group (EG) (N=l3) or the control group (CG) (N=4). All subjects were pre and post tested for total body weight (TBW), body density (BD), percent body fat (%BF), lean body weight (LBW), muscular endurance (ME), and muscular strength (MS). The EG participated in a CWT program, lifting a minimum of 40% of a one repetition maximum for 30 seconds (12-15 repetitions) at each station, and resting 40 seconds between …

Manganese Greensand Contact Bed Filtration Of A Municipal Groundwater Supply For Iron And Manganese Removal, Terry Kirschenman
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The water supply for the City of Brookings is treated by water treatment plants located on the north and on the east side of town. The east water treatment plant is supplied by three wells and has a maximum design capacity of 4 mgd (15,140 m3/day). Designed for iron and manganese removal, partial softening, stability control, and disinfection, the plant includes the following processes: aeration, lime softening, alum coagulation, recarbonation, potassium permanganate oxidation, polyphosphate treatment, filtration, chlorination, and fluoridation. The east plant is producing a stable water based on the Langlier Saturation Index. USPHS recommended limitations for iron and manganese …
A Comparison Of Present Position Of Selected College And University Personnel Administrators In The Southeastern United States To The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, Roy S. Jones
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The problem was to determine whether a significant relationship existed among the present positions, career goals, and results of the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator using selected college and university personnel administrators in the Southern Region of the College and University Personnel Association (CUPA). Literature was reviewed in order to determine the previous research of Myers-Briggs Type Indicator as it applies to college and university personnel administrators. The standard Myers-Briggs Type Indicator was chosen as the personality inventory instrument. Colleges and universities surveyed were selected using the Southern Region of the College and University Personnel Association (CUPA) as the group. The Myers-Briggs …

Dispersal And Harvest Of Sage Grouse Utilizing The Test Reactor Area Of The Idaho National Engineering Laboratory, Howard W. Browers, Jr.
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
A radio telemetry study of sage grouse (Centrocercus urophasianus) summering at the Test Reactor Area (TRA) on the Idaho National Engineering Laboratory (INEL) in southeastern Idaho was initiated in July 1980. Objectives included determination of habitat use, home range, brood breakup, fall movements, and harvest of sage grouse using the TRA. Supplemental habitat data and fall movement data were collected from sage grouse summering at the Central Facilities Area (CFA) on the INEL in 1982. Seasonal precipitation appeared to influence the period of use of the TRA by sage grouse. Grouse arrived later and left earlier in the wet year …
Rainbow Trout (Salmo Gairdneri) Cage Culture And Primary Production In Eastern South Dakota Dugout Ponds, Michael John Roell
Rainbow Trout (Salmo Gairdneri) Cage Culture And Primary Production In Eastern South Dakota Dugout Ponds, Michael John Roell
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Rainbow trout (Salmo gairdneri) reared in 1 m³ cages in a South Dakota dugout pond grew and survived as well or better than most cage-cultured rainbow trout reported in the literature. Significant differences (P≤0.01) in mean length, weight, and food conversion, and similarity in relative weight between trout fed 2 and 4% of body weight daily, indicated that the optimum feeding rate was near 3% for this size range (35=100g). Daily rations based on fish size and water temperature need to be developed for trout reared in a lentic environment. The high cost of fingerlings was the limiting factor in …
The Adjustment Of Foreign Students At Sdsu, Mansour Haghighatian
The Adjustment Of Foreign Students At Sdsu, Mansour Haghighatian
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
A visible and significant subset of the student body of many U.S. institutions of higher education is its foreign student population. These students come from a wide variety of cultures and as Skinner & Hendricks have put it, "Despite the variety of views of foreign students Americans may have, Americans have a common feeling that the foreign student is somehow different, a 'they' and not a 'we' ". The foreign student is different because he/she is from culture that has different values, traditions and different codes of behavior and guides for conduct. Meleis asserts that ''whereas American business-people need know …

Parasites Of Three Species Of South Dakota Lagomorphs, Glenn E. Kietzmann
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The wild lagomorpha of North America have in the past been the subject of numerous parasitological examinations. Many of these surveys have been performed on cottontail rabbits, while comparatively fewer studies have been done on the jack rabbits. In South Dakota, parasite surveys have yet to be. completed on both cottontail rabbits and jack rabbits. The representatives of the Leporidae found in South Dakota are the white-tailed jack rabbit (Lepus townsendii campanius), the black tailed jack rabbit (Lepus californicus melanotis), the eastern cottontail rabbits Sylvilagus floridanus similis and Sylvilagus floridanus mearnsii), the desert cottontail rabbit (Sylvilagus audubonii baileyi) and the …
