Some Indications Of The Reinforcement Effects Of Cooperative Extension Programs Broadcast From Kota-Tv, Rapid City, South Dakota, A Commercial Television Station, Francis Elizabeth Maierhauser

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

This study was undertaken in an attempt to determine to what extent commercial television--an example of mass communication—acts as a contributory agent in the process of reinforcing existing learning experiences, and in an attempt to isolate some of the other factors that may act as mediating influences to reinforcing effects. The subjects of this research consisted of' members or the Extension Clubs in Meade County, South Dakota. A second audience of the same approximate size of non-members of Extension Clubs in the same county was used as a control group for purposes of comparison. This problem was chosen for study …

The Supplementation Of Lysine To Growing And Finishing Swine, Roger D. Magstadt Feb 1968

The Supplementation Of Lysine To Growing And Finishing Swine, Roger D. Magstadt

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

In the United States the swine industry contributes a great deal to the economy of the corn-belt farmer. On June 1, 1967, the U.S.D.A. Statistical Reporting Service reported 43,642,000 swine in the ten Corn Belt States, which produce three-fourths of the United States pig crop. South Dakota produced approximately 2,700,000 hogs in 1966 with a value of 137.5 million dollars, which is approximately 18.1% of the total farm income. In recent years the trend toward producing a fast-growing, efficient and meaty hog has necessitated that the nutritional regimen be changed to help express the hereditary potential of the modern meat …

Effects Of Marginal Quality Irrigation Water On The Accumulation Of Salts And Alkali In Irrigated Soils, John M. Madden Feb 1968

Effects Of Marginal Quality Irrigation Water On The Accumulation Of Salts And Alkali In Irrigated Soils, John M. Madden

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

This study has been undertaken because of the limited knowledge of the effects of irrigation on soils in semi-arid and sub-humid climatic areas. The objectives of this research are: 1.To study irrigation systems now in operation and to determine by soil and water analysis the rates of salt and alkali accumulation; 2. To determine, by a multiple regression analysis, the laboratory determinations which most accurately estimate the exchangeable-sodium-percentage of the soil; 3. To determine the effect of various qualities of irrigation water on the accumulation of salts and alkali in the soils being developed for irrigation in South Dakota; 4. …

Immediate Knowledge Of Results Via Videotape Replay And Its Effect On The Learning Of Selected Football Skills, Alexander Thomas Lundquist

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

It was the purpose of this study to determine whether videotape instruction utilizing immediate knowledge of results is superior to two of the traditional methods of coaching football. The traditional methods employed in this study were (1) verbal cues and demonstration and (2) verbal cues, demonstration, and a training film. The following procedure was employed: Thirty-three male volunteer freshman students at South Dakota State University were laced into three groups equated by their motor educability and pretest scores on selected football skills • . The subjects in the three groups participated in a five-week training program, during which they met …

Overhead Contribution From A Sloping Roof, Duane David Yager Feb 1968

Overhead Contribution From A Sloping Roof, Duane David Yager

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The probable spread of nuclear arms capability and the continued build-up of nuclear weaponry in the arsenals of several nations are extremely critical. The possibility of a nuclear disaster, whether by accident, miscalculation, or design, has been greatly increased. Such a disaster could result in the annihilation or incapacitation of large numbers of the population. This is especially true for those people that are unprotected against the several effects -of nuclear weapons. During the period following World War II, the United States developed its strategic offensive forces to a point where they are now equal, if not superior, in quantity …

Conductance Studies Of Concentrated Solutions Of Sodium Hydroxide And Potassium Hydroxide Electrolytes, Andrew Ling-Wei Woo Feb 1968

Conductance Studies Of Concentrated Solutions Of Sodium Hydroxide And Potassium Hydroxide Electrolytes, Andrew Ling-Wei Woo

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Most of the basic assumptions for the theory of conductance were originated by Onsager. Debye and Falkenhagen extended the Onsager theory in their studies with the use of alternating current methods. To this day, theories of conductance in electrolytic solutions are founded principally upon developments of these early basic ideas. However, the theoretical treatment in the case of concentrated solutions is still inadequate. This is due to the circumstance that the general molecular theory of irreversible processes is still in a developmental stage. In addition, the electrolytic solution comprises a complex system whose exact treatment encounters formidable mathematical difficulties. It …
