Pages of history are filled with the recording of man’s movement from an area of lesser opportunity to one with a more favorable environment for security and happiness. The Dakota people too were lured toward “greener pastures” like countless ages of people have been. However, the needy migrant (particularly the Indian) in American life may well find himself a virtual outcast, not only from his own parent group for forsaking his “gemeinschaft” affiliations, but because the migrant is not yet a legally-qualified resident of the new community. In spite of the unforeseeable shortcomings which any migrant may encounter, however, migration …

A Study Of The Problem Of Exemption From The Basic Speech Course, Joyce E. Milliken
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
A four-credit basic speech course as a required part of the core curriculum at South Dakota State College became effective at the May 25, 1960, faculty meeting. Those members of the Ad Hoc committee studying communication had received from the Speech Department a recommendation that the department be allowed to explore the adoption of a procedure by which “students of exceptional ability in speech be excused from the basic speech course if suitable measuring instruments and a feasible plan can be developed by the speech department.” The committee verbally approved and encouraged that recommendation. It was the aim of this …

A Study Of Seventh Grade Problems Compiled Into A Check List, Catherine Thurston
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The transaction from the sixth to the seventh grade for the early adolescent has been a long recognized problem. Various schools have tried different methods to make it smooth and more pleasant since this is a critical period physically, emotionally, and socially because of the changes taking place within the individual. The curriculum has been changed and shaped around the needs of the early adolescent. Recent courses in guidance and years of experience in teaching have pointed out the fact clearly that the early adolescence has many concealed problems with which they are wrestling, and from which they seek relief. …
