In telemetry systems, the limited power available from the RF transmitter imposes a constraint on the data transmission rate. For example, a spacecraft’s ability to communicate with a ground receiving station decreases with the square of the distance, and electrical power to operate the system increases with the data transmission rate. To solve this problem, considerable attention has been devoted toward improving the efficiency of telemetry systems by selecting advantageous coding, modulation and reconstruction techniques. One technique which is used to achieve this goal is to design a telemetry system which transmits only the significant information contained in the source …
A Comparison Of The Effect Of Overt And Covert Responses On The Retention Of Programed Material, Gary Merriam
A Comparison Of The Effect Of Overt And Covert Responses On The Retention Of Programed Material, Gary Merriam
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
It is the purpose of this study to help in the resolution of some of these questions by determining if the type of response made to programed material has any effect on the retention of the material. If, as was mentioned earlier, learning is the result of stimuli transmitted through the senses to the brain, it seems logical that the more senses involved in transmitting the stimuli to the brain the more effective and efficient the learning process will be. It is the hypothesis of this study that a person responding to programed material by having to think what the …

In December, 1963, a study of Interstate System highway accidents was published. The published study presented an analysis of accident data compiled in sixteen states. Data were collected from Interstate System highways and nearby existing highways before and after the completion of the Interstate System highways. The study reported that thirty-five percent of all collisions on the Interstate System highways were of the ear-end or same direction sideswipe type. For the existing highways, the percentages were thirty-nine and forty-one before the Interstate System highway completion and after the Interstate System highway completion, respectively. It was found that rear-end or same …
The Eagle Grove, Iowa, Nongraded Middle School Intrinsic And Extrinsic Changes Cause A Shifting Of Student Attitudes, James W. Tausz
The Eagle Grove, Iowa, Nongraded Middle School Intrinsic And Extrinsic Changes Cause A Shifting Of Student Attitudes, James W. Tausz
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Eagle Grove's non-graded middle school had begun operation in September of 196 7. The student population was approximately 600, 1968 - 1969 school year, within grdes 6 through 9. The school also had drawn enrollment from the nearby communities of Woolstock, Vincent, and Thor. Belmond 1 s traditional school system had grade 6 in the elementary school, grades 7 - 8 in the junior high school, and grade 9 in the high school. The system also had drawn enrollment from the surrounding rural territory. Richard Miller* (14:1) stated the nongraded movement is one of the ten most topical and important …
South Dakota Farm Boys Planning Farm And Nonfarm Occupations: A Comparative Analysis, Alan L. Loya
South Dakota Farm Boys Planning Farm And Nonfarm Occupations: A Comparative Analysis, Alan L. Loya
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Farm youth are finding it increasingly difficult to enter farming as a life occupation, and are therefore faced with a difficult situation when it comes to choosing an occupation. The farm-reared boys must decide whether or not to continue the family tradition in farming, and if they decide not to follow this tradition, they must decide on a nonfarm occupation which they would like to enter. The future welfare of these farm youth is associated with the occupational choices they make at this time. Therefore, a comparison of the characteristics of farm boys who plan farm occupations with those who …
A Follow-Up Study Of The 1962-66 Graduates Augustana Academy, S. Luther Simonson
A Follow-Up Study Of The 1962-66 Graduates Augustana Academy, S. Luther Simonson
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The functions of the guidance program in today's schools usually consist of five main services. They are: inventory, information, counseling, placement, and follow-up. This paper will center about the last of these services, namely, follow-up. The follow-up service is to education what the customer relations department is to merchandising by means of a continuing follow-up of former students, the educator learns of their .failures, problems, successes, and--most important--obtains their suggestions for improvement. The purpose of this investigation was to conduct a follow-up study of the 1962-66 graduates of Augustana Academy, Canton, South Dakota. Information concerning their evaluations of their former …
Breeding For Resistance To Wheat Streak Mosaic Virus, Charles Lee Lay
Breeding For Resistance To Wheat Streak Mosaic Virus, Charles Lee Lay
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Immunity to WSMV was found.in a Triticum Agropyron derived from Carsten x A. intermedium. This line was crossed with many common wheats and the F1 seed irradiated. After one backcross to common wheat and several generations of selfing it was concluded that a desirable translocation had not occurred. A backcrossing program was began in an attempt to establish an addition line. After two backcrosses of resistant plants to common wheat one disomic addition plant and three monosomic addition plants were identified. A fifth resistant plant with 42 chromosomes was also identified. This plant apparently involves a translocation but it is …
Isolation Of Keratinophilic Fungi From Soil And Wild Animals In South Dakota, William Urban Knudtson
Isolation Of Keratinophilic Fungi From Soil And Wild Animals In South Dakota, William Urban Knudtson
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Very little is known of the ecology of keratinophilic fungi in animal populations and their habitats in South Dakota. Recent investigation of an outbreak of ringworm in blue foxes on a fur farm in South Dakota indicated that the source of infection may have been wild animals which had been captured and raised in the kennels previous to occupancy by the foxes. In recent years, a number of investigators have demonstrated that small and large mammals may carry keratinophilic fungi in their coats (13, 29-31, 52, 56-60, 63, 70, 77) and have postulated on the role of infected animals in …
