From Emerson To Faulkner : Affinities Of Nature Symbiosis, Justin Robert Wert
From Emerson To Faulkner : Affinities Of Nature Symbiosis, Justin Robert Wert
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
This thesis is a study of the affinities amongst Ralph Waldo Emerson’s Nature, Mary Murfree’s "Driftin’ Down Lost Creek" and "The Mystery of Witch-Face Mountain" and William Faulkner’s "The Bear." The linkages of Emerson’s Nature with the three stories are explored in terms of Emerson’s “symbiosis theory": the symbiotic relationship between Man and Nature.
Through a careful analysis of Nature, in which the "Language" section of Emerson’s essay is of primary focus, Emerson’s "theory" that “every natural fact is a symbol of some spiritual fact" (32) is thoroughly examined. When the philosophic and literary influences upon Emerson’s symbiotic analogies and …
Shades Of White : Party Politics In Mississippi, 1870-1896, William Bland Whitley
Shades Of White : Party Politics In Mississippi, 1870-1896, William Bland Whitley
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
This thesis seeks to uncover some of the cultural motivations behind white Mississippians’ acceptance of one party rule. Previous scholars of southern political life have focused mainly on the institutional means by which the Democratic party forged its hegemony over Mississippi and the rest of the South. Other factors, however, also contributed to the emergence of white political unity.
I have placed the Redemption campaign of 1875 at the center of the political and racial identities of most white Mississippians. During this campaign whites dissolved whatever differences existed between them to overthrow, by any means necessary, a Republican regime that …

The Relationships Among Leadership Behaviors Of Leaders In Training Organizations, Training Methods, And Organization Profitability, Joseph D. Keith
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Business organizations are decreasing funding for training. The problem investigated in this study was to determine if there was a relationship among the leadership behavior of training leaders, the use of newer methods of training, and organizational profitability. A sample of 57 organizations from the Fortune 500 was surveyed to determine leadership behavior and the use of newer methods of training. The Leadership Practices Inventory was used to measure leadership and the Affective Communication Test was used to measure charisma. Profitability data were obtained from the literature. Return on assets, return on equity, the Moody's Corporate Bond Rating, and the …
Water Quality Of East Texas Streams: Forested Versus Pastured Watersheds Receiving Poultry Litter Applications, Mark Craig Cochran
Water Quality Of East Texas Streams: Forested Versus Pastured Watersheds Receiving Poultry Litter Applications, Mark Craig Cochran
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Water quality and stream discharge were monitored at six sites on two Nacogdoches County, Texas streams over a nine month period (March - November 1995). Three sites were located in forested watersheds and the other three sites were downstream of pastured watersheds surface-applied with poultry litter, a potential nonpoint source of pollution. Stream water samples were analyzed for Ca, K, Mg, Na, 03-N ,TKN, P04-P, TP, TSS, pH, and dissolved oxygen. A rapid bioassessment was conducted to assess aquatic life stream conditions. Half of the 273 stream samples had nitrate-nitrogen concentrations greater than 0.30 mg L-1 high enough to support …
