A Phenomenological Study Of The Experiences Of College Graduates With Chronic Illnesses Who Faced Health Threats And Interruptions In Their Daily Activities, Paula J. Uzuka Jul 2024

A Phenomenological Study Of The Experiences Of College Graduates With Chronic Illnesses Who Faced Health Threats And Interruptions In Their Daily Activities, Paula J. Uzuka

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

The purpose of this transcendental phenomenological study was to examine the experiences of individuals with chronic illnesses who graduated from college while facing health threats that often interrupted their daily activities. The theory that guided this study was Bandura's self-efficacy theory. Bandura defined self-efficacy as what a person understands about their ability to accomplish specific goals. In addition, Leventhal's construct, the common-sense model of self-regulation, provided the substructure of Bandura's theory, illustrating that with the right guidance, individuals can make decisions and manage their own health. An individual can use the theory and model to determine the necessary actions to …

Anticoagulation Stewardship Initiative For The Outpatient Management Of Atrial Fibrillation, Ryleigh Hawker Jul 2024

Anticoagulation Stewardship Initiative For The Outpatient Management Of Atrial Fibrillation, Ryleigh Hawker

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

Anticoagulation prescribing for patients with atrial fibrillation at a local primary care and urgent care office has largely been conservative and unstandardized, leaving patients at risk for cardioembolic strokes. As more and more patients are diagnosed with this condition, the greater the need becomes for appropriate management within these settings. This includes preventing strokes with anticoagulation and utilizing an integrative or collaborative approach between specialty and non-specialty centers. The Anticoagulation Stewardship Initiative is the first step in promoting effective and safe anticoagulation practices in primary and urgent care centers, while simultaneously streamlining care for newly diagnosed patients. Some of the …

Quasi-Experimental Study Of The Impact Spaced Practice And Retrieval Have On Mathematical Fact Fluency In Third-, Fourth-, And Fifth-Grade Students, Stefanie L. Breneman-Smith Jul 2024

Quasi-Experimental Study Of The Impact Spaced Practice And Retrieval Have On Mathematical Fact Fluency In Third-, Fourth-, And Fifth-Grade Students, Stefanie L. Breneman-Smith

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

The purpose of this quantitative, quasi-experimental nonequivalent control group study was to determine if there is a difference in mathematical fact fluency among third-, fourth-, and fifth-grade students with varying practice methods and spacing intervals while controlling for pre-test scores. The study filled the literature gap by examining the impact of each variable and their combined additive effect in a third-, fourth-, and fifth-grade student population. Given the importance of math fact fluency on overall math performance, finding the most effective means for building retention is imperative. The sample included 196 third-, fourth-, and fifth-grade students. Data collection was completed …

A Transcendental Phenomenological Study Of Onboarding Practices: Mid-Atlantic Region Public High School Teachers' Lived Experiences, Tiffany M. Draper

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

The purpose of this transcendental phenomenological study is to understand the lived experiences of Mid-Atlantic region public high school teachers participating in onboarding practices, which provides insight into best practices to increase teacher self-efficacy and decrease attrition rates. The theory guiding this study is Albert Bandura's theory of self-efficacy, as it links ineffective and effective onboarding practices for new high school teachers with their levels of teacher self-efficacy, aligning with teacher retention and attrition rates. Bandura's theory of self-efficacy provided a framework with which to answer the central research question and three sub-questions: (CRQ) What are the lived experiences of …

Virtual Versus Tangible Math Manipulatives: A Quasi-Experimental Study Comparing The Impact Of Different Types On Mathematical Understanding, Haley L. Gullion

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

The purpose of this quantitative, quasi-experimental nonequivalent control group design study was to measure the effects of both types of manipulatives on student mathematical understanding of 1st and 4th grade, Title I students. This data is needed for teachers to make informed decisions regarding their instructional choices. 270 participants were separated into three groups based on which type of manipulative their classroom teacher used during instruction: physical, virtual, or both. After 10 weeks of instruction with these manipulatives, student achievement was calculated for each student utilizing the Universal Screeners for Number Sense, and the groups within each grade level band …

Improving Use Of Water Immersion And Birth Satisfaction During The First Stage Of Labor Through An Educational Handout, Dana E. Taylor

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

Although using the birthing tub for hydrotherapy during the first stage of labor has been proven to be a safe and effective method of low-intervention pain management, as well as research that indicates potential other benefits such as a reduction in the use of an epidural, improvement in breastfeeding rates, and promotion of physiologic birth, its use is often limited. Chief reasons for the lack of its use include difficulty and time constraints with tub set-up and lack of knowledge about its benefits, especially the length of time used. A quasi-experimental evidence-based project at a suburban magnet-designated hospital using a …

Culinary Nutrition Education To Division 3 Athletes, Jonathan Robert Poyourow Jun 2024

Culinary Nutrition Education To Division 3 Athletes, Jonathan Robert Poyourow

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

This paper examines the impact of culinary nutrition education on the athletic potential of Division 3 athletes using culinary nutrition education. In the last five to ten years, the number of registered dietitians (RDs) working with collegiate athletes full-time in the United States has increased dramatically. However, even at large Division 1 universities that have these staff members, many student-athletes may still be at increased risk of nutrition-related problems that impact physical and academic performance. They may also include inappropriate macronutrient and micronutrient consumption. While a great deal of research has been conducted at Division 1 universities regarding sports nutrition …

Meals For All: An Examination Of The Effects Of Free School Meals On Middle Class Households, Ryan Elizabeth Comerford

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

Universal meal programs were created to mitigate childhood food insecurity in low-income communities. The Nexus Of Passive-Avoidant Leadership And Deviancy: Exploring Job Embeddedness, Anthony Maurice Da Silva

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

In the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic, employers have experienced unprecedented changes in the workforce, including labor shortages and new legislation. As a result, many organizations, known as second-chance employers, proactively seek alternative talent sources to mitigate staffing shortages, including hiring candidates with criminal backgrounds, either voluntarily or as mandated by law. However, this approach has challenges; individuals with criminal records often lack essential support upon reentry and experience an increased risk of reoffending. Although existing literature indicates that the appropriate leadership style is crucial for behavior correction, there is a gap in the literature addressing employees who work for …
