The Call (And Aftermath) Of The Void: Understanding Suicide Loss And Bereavement Processes Amongst Student Populaces, Saraha K. Brawner
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
Each year, over 800,000 people die via lethal self-harm, leaving behind millions of survivors to navigate qualitatively unique manifestations of grief. Despite the profound psychosocial and psychopathological effects associated with suicide loss, research addressing these experiences remains extremely limited. This quantitative survey study examined the relationship between suicide loss and grief-related distress among students, focusing on sociodemographic, psychosocial, and psychopathological factors influencing bereavement over time. It also explored how the individual learned about the suicide and expanded upon 1st, 2nd, and 3rd-degree relationships. Forty-one participants recruited from universities and mental health organizations across the United States completed a loss summary/death …
Impacts Of Early Childhood Trauma On Later Emotional, Behavioral, Educational, And Social Abilities, Stacey Merrill
Impacts Of Early Childhood Trauma On Later Emotional, Behavioral, Educational, And Social Abilities, Stacey Merrill
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
Early childhood trauma has a long-lasting impact on individuals’ social interactions, mental health, academic skills, behaviors, and parenting skills for the future generations. Understanding how early interpersonal developmental trauma impacts an individual during adolescence can help providers and caregivers know how to help them become successful students and later adults. Helping individuals early in their development can prevent the cycle of abuse from continuing. Trauma informed care can help bridge the gap between those with and without known traumas. This study consisted of an interpretive phenomenological qualitative design using semi-structured interviews to understand the impact of early trauma on adolescence …
Sense Of Belonging In The Workplace: Development And Validation Of A Scale, Campbell C. Dunson
Sense Of Belonging In The Workplace: Development And Validation Of A Scale, Campbell C. Dunson
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
In this dissertation, I describe the development and validation of the Sense of Belonging in the Workplace Scale (SBWS). A comprehensive, multidisciplinary review of the belonging construct revealed five key components of a sense of belonging in the workplace: (1) accepted/liked, (2) known/understood, (3) purpose/status, (4) respected/voice, and (5) safety/trust. Scale validation began with a review of 40 initial items by a panel of 12 subject matter experts (SMEs). The items were then revised, and a pilot study involving 67 participants was conducted to test these 40 items through exploratory factor analysis and construct validation. The top-performing 25 items were …
Compassion Fatigue And Secondary Traumatization On Foster Mothers’ Perceived Quality Of Provided Care: A Phenomenological Study, Gabrielle Hines
Compassion Fatigue And Secondary Traumatization On Foster Mothers’ Perceived Quality Of Provided Care: A Phenomenological Study, Gabrielle Hines
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
Compassion fatigue and secondary traumatization are related phenomenon that contribute to the emotional and mental exhaustion of people in caring professions and roles. Of care, feminist ethicist Gilligan says that care is a reciprocal act that can repair the damage of past wrongs yet benefit both parties involved. This study examined the testimonies of eight foster mothers in the United States Midwest regarding their experiences with compassion fatigue and secondary traumatization and their manifestations of quality care, as the literature lacks thorough descriptions of both. Through hermeneutical phenomenological research, specifically interviews, this study confirmed that the foster mothers experienced compassion …
Curriculum As A Tool To Enhance Self-Efficacy And Instructional Practices: A Phenomenological Study Of The Lived Experiences Of Elementary Math Teachers, Twana P. Young
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
The purpose of this transcendental phenomenological study was to explore the lived experiences of elementary math teachers to investigate their use of curriculum as a tool to enhance self-efficacy and instructional practices in second through fourth grade classrooms. The theory guiding this study was Bandura’s social cognitive theory, particularly the tenet of self-efficacy, as it addresses the confidence teachers have as they enact the curriculum and instructional practices. Teacher self-efficacy is both shaped by and shapes their application of what they learn from the professional learning embedded in the curriculum. This study was designed to explore the central research question, …

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
The purpose of this phenomenological study is to describe the effects of perpetual restrictions and stigmatization for previously incarcerated individual’s vulnerability and efforts to reduce recidivism in society. The theories guiding this study are Bandura’s (1986) social theory as it explains the relationship between the theory of self-efficacy and motivation, and Maslow’s (1954) hierarchy of needs accompanied by humanistic and existential theorists Viktor Frankl’s (1946) logotherapy and Carl Roger’s (1951) humanistic psychology as it emphasizes basic needs for human existence and success which are contradicted by hinderance of perpetual restrictions. Because of the mass stigmatization of people who have been …

While the Bible recognizes dance as a form of worship and certain cultures have embraced it for its potential to deepen faith, dance has experienced restricted acceptance in numerous societies and denominations and has received minimal scholarly attention, limited to the study of liturgical dance. This study explores ways for Korean Christian worship, predominantly characterized by Oriental conservative principles, to consider dance as a regular form of worship expression. The Effects Of Seesaw On "John Kanaka" Singing Assessment Tracking And Teacher-To-Student Feedback In The Third Grade Elementary Music Classroom, Sarah Elizabeth Gonzalez
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
Assessments play a vital role for teachers to measure individual student progress and motivate instruction that meets students' needs. Traditional assessments provide a substantive way for teachers to collect data, which they will analyze long after they administer the assessment. Creating substantial evidence for individual performance-based standards poses a challenge. Seesaw serves as an online platform for student engagement, allowing students to share their knowledge while parents can safely monitor it through photos, videos, drawings, text, audio, PDFs, and links. The researchers conducted the study over four weeks in March 2025 in the third-grade music classes at Ray Roberts Elementary. …
