Factors Influencing The Recruitment And Hiring Of Early Career Nurse Faculty, Katie Sladky
Factors Influencing The Recruitment And Hiring Of Early Career Nurse Faculty, Katie Sladky
Dissertations
The nursing faculty and subsequent nursing shortages have plagued the profession for decades with little progress made in altering the trajectory of the problem (AACN, 2005; IOM, 2010; NLN, 2017). Primary influences on the faculty shortage include later entry into faculty roles, the aging of faculty, and early retirements, and a logical solution is to recruit nurses to faculty roles earlier in their careers. The purpose of this study was to examine factors relating to recruitment strategies and hiring practices used by administrators of undergraduate, prelicensure nursing programs for early career nursing faculty. This study contributes new knowledge about administrators' …

Kolcaba's Comfort Theory was used to guide this evidence-based project.
Nursing Staff Approaches To Providing Oral Hygiene In Stroke Survivors With Dysphagia: A Grounded Theory Study, Willard Brewer
Nursing Staff Approaches To Providing Oral Hygiene In Stroke Survivors With Dysphagia: A Grounded Theory Study, Willard Brewer
Dissertations
The purpose of this qualitative grounded theory study was to explore how the nursing staff approaches oral hygiene in stroke survivors with dysphagia during the rehabilitation phase of recovery and what guides their decisions. Oral hygiene is a proven effective task known to prevent systemic health disparities (i.e. aspiration pneumonia, diabetes, gastrointestinal disparities, and even stroke). However, there are no current evidenced-based guidelines that provide instruction on how to execute oral hygiene to stroke survivors with dysphagia. Little is known about how nurses make decisions to implement oral hygiene in stroke survivors with dysphagia.

Methods: A descriptive cohort design was utilized to analyze surveys completed three months apart. A convenience sample was used with older adults already enrolled in a weekly socialization program. The Iowa Model of Evidence-Based Practice was applied to evaluate and promote quality …
Temperature Instability Over Time And Respiratory Morbidity In The Very Premature Infant, Jane L. Harney-Ralphe
Temperature Instability Over Time And Respiratory Morbidity In The Very Premature Infant, Jane L. Harney-Ralphe
Dissertations
Very premature infants are at risk for thermal instability due to thermoregulatory immaturity. Thermal instability upon neonatal intensive care unit admission has been associated with mortality and morbidity in these infants. Bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD), a developmental respiratory morbidity, is the most common complication of very premature birth. BPD is associated with admission temperature instability; however, its relationship with longitudinal temperature instability is poorly understood. An exploratory mixed-methods approach was used to examine the association between very premature infant temperatures over time and acute and chronic respiratory morbidities. The impact of daily care and respiratory care on infant body temperatures over …

Developing New Prognostic Models For Predicting Outcomes In Severe Traumatic Brain Injury, Kwankaew Wongchareon
Developing New Prognostic Models For Predicting Outcomes In Severe Traumatic Brain Injury, Kwankaew Wongchareon
Dissertations
Globally, the annual incidence rate of traumatic brain injury (TBI) in all ages is 349 per 100,000 person-years. The incidence of TBI varies across regions, populations, regulations, and health systems; but in general, the rate is expected to be higher in low and middle-income countries (LMICs). As LMICs usually have poor pre-hospital care, delays in patient transfer, lack of facilities and well-trained staff; these make the burden of TBI more devastating and a pressing public health issue. In this dissertation, we focused on several approaches to determine the value of prognostic research in adult patients with severe TBI, test model …
