Problem. Few attempts have been conducted to assess knowledge of HIV/AIDS in the adolescent population attending Seventh-day Adventist secondary schools. This present study was to investigate the HIV/AIDS-related beliefs, HIV/AIDS-related knowledge, and HIV/AIDS-related behaviors of adolescents according to gender, grade level, ethnicity, geographical location, and religious affiliation.
Method. The subjects for this study were 1,292 9th- through 12th-grade students attending selected non-boarding Seventh-day Adventist academies representing three geographical regions of the United States and the Virgin Islands. Scripture In The Theologies Of W. Pannenberg And D. G. Bloesch: An Investigation And Assessment Of Its Origin, Nature, And Use, Frank Hasel
Dissertations
Scripture has played an authoritative role in Christian theology for centuries and has been at the heart of Protestant theology from its beginning. The rise of modern historical criticism, however, has led to a crisis at this very foundation of Protestant theology. In this context this dissertation seeks to set forth, analyze, compare, and evaluate theconcept of Scripture in the theologies of two contemporary Protestant systematic theologians who represent significantly different concepts of Scripture: Wolfhart Pannenberg and Donald G. Bloesch.
Chapter 1 provides a brief introduction, delineates the objectives, research methodology, and delimitations of the study. This is followed in …

Death Before The Sin Of Adam: A Fundamental Concept In Theistic Evolution And Its Implications For Evangelical Theology, Marco T. Terreros
Death Before The Sin Of Adam: A Fundamental Concept In Theistic Evolution And Its Implications For Evangelical Theology, Marco T. Terreros
Dissertations
Charles Darwin established theoretically that evolution cannot operate without struggle and death. Therefore, evolution presupposes the presence of death on earth for aeons prior to the appearance of Homo sapiens. This means, for theistic evolution, that a long history of death preceded the appearance of Adam, implying that death is not connected to Adam's sin. The purpose of the dissertation is to discover how this latter notion impacts evangelical theology with respect to the atonement and other areas in terms of possible theological implications.
After reviewing the literature on the topic in chapter 1, the dissertation discusses the historical background …
Detecting Malingered Psychotic Symptoms With The Rorschach Projective Technique, Kristin M. Batchelder
Detecting Malingered Psychotic Symptoms With The Rorschach Projective Technique, Kristin M. Batchelder
Dissertations
Problem. Criminal defendants may be strongly motivated to avoid prosecution by appearing mentally ill, and the malingering of psychotic symptoms is of special concern in legal proceedings. Much research has been conducted to determine accurate methods to detect malingering. These include clinical interviews, structured personality tests, intelligence tests, and projective techniques. This present study investigated the ability of specific variables on the Rorschach Projective Technique to detect malingered protocols.
Method. The 83 subjects in this study were restricted to male pre-trial defendants in the Federal Judicial system who were placed into three categories by diagnosis: (1) malingering psychotic symptoms, (2) …

Validation Of Goals For Pre-Departure Missionary Orientation, Donna M. Worley
Validation Of Goals For Pre-Departure Missionary Orientation, Donna M. Worley
Dissertations
Problem
Cross-cultural orientation programs facilitate missionary preparedness. Orientation is more effective if driven by valid and suitable goals determined before methods are selected and programs implemented. This study attempted to identify valid goals for pre-departure programs and develop a framework for selecting them.
Method
The goals of the Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) Institute for World Mission (IWM) were selected for validation. IWM is a 4-6 week pre-departure orientation program that started in 1966 and had effectively prepared 2,500+ cross-cultural missionaries by 1993. Their goals are broad areas suitable for establishing sub-goals and objectives. The validation process comprised four phases: identification and …
The Composition Of Tripolar Announcement Stories In The Gospel Of Mark, Hans-Otto Reling
The Composition Of Tripolar Announcement Stories In The Gospel Of Mark, Hans-Otto Reling
Dissertations
In the Gospel of Mark one finds narratives with three main characters. These stories, which belong to the category of pronouncement stories, I call tripolar pronouncement stories. These narratives have not been recognized, nor has their significance been examined.
I utilize in my study the principles of narrative criticism. Subsequently, I analyze the eight tripolar pronouncement stories of the Gospel of Mark according to the plot, characters, setting, and rhetoric of the story.
The tripolar pronouncement stories that can be identified in the Gospel of Mark are: (1) Mark 2:1-12 (The Healing of the Paralytic), (2) Mark 2:15-17 (Jesus' Company …
