On Adaptive Code Division Multiple Access Detectors, Wenping Chen Jan 1995

On Adaptive Code Division Multiple Access Detectors, Wenping Chen

Dissertations

Several variations of adaptive CDMA synchronous receiver schemes which can automatically adjust to the system parameters, are studied in this dissertation. Unlike their non-adaptive counterparts, these adaptive detectors require no knowledge of the received signals' energies and have similar or better performance.

Minimum energy and decorrelating criterion are used to update the weights. Since weights are updated according to the changes of the detector's outputs, hence no training sequence is required. The convergences of some of the aforementioned adaptive detectors are also disscussed.

The detectors proposed in this dissertation are near-far resistant, thus rendering the high-precision power control unnecessary. Among them, …

Chapter 3 examines the Book of Joshua from an archaeological and thematic perspective. Chapter 4 highlights presuppositions that have been brought to the archaeological data and the Book of Joshua. Chapter 5 uses the discussions of chapters 2, 3, and …

A Descriptive Multiple Case Study Of Three Elementary Schools In Project Homecoming, The Inclusion Program Within The Dallas Independent School District, Sharron A. Caraker

Dissertations

Topic. The focus of this study was the actions, policies, and procedures used in the successful implementation of an inclusion program in three elementary schools participating in Project Homecoming within the Dallas Independent School District. I was interested in how these actions, policies, and procedures affected the different groups within the schools--students, parents, certified staff, and non-certified staff as well. The data gathered in this study should be useful to other school districts in the process of developing an inclusion program in the elementary school.

A Model For Marketing Agricultural Programs [In] Private Colleges And Universities, Thomas N. Chittick Jan 1995

A Model For Marketing Agricultural Programs [In] Private Colleges And Universities, Thomas N. Chittick

Dissertations

Problem. Enrollment in agriculture programs has been declining despite a shortage of qualified graduates to meet the current needs of the agriculture industry. Although the principles of marketing have been applied to higher education, little has been written about the marketing of agriculture programs in a liberal arts institution.

Method. Information about marketing educational programs was reviewed in the literature and knowledge of current marketing practices of liberal arts colleges with agriculture programs was assembled by conducting site visits at seven colleges selected for the study. This information was the basis for the development of a marketing model. The model …

Interactional Effects Between Levels Of Biofeedback Confidence And Measures Of Assertiveness On Biofeedback Treatment Outcome, Dora D. Clarke-Pine Jan 1995

Interactional Effects Between Levels Of Biofeedback Confidence And Measures Of Assertiveness On Biofeedback Treatment Outcome, Dora D. Clarke-Pine

Dissertations

Problem. Not all individuals who enter a biofeedback program obtain the relief that they are seeking from their various pain-related or anxiety-related complaints. Some individuals obtain little or no relief, whereas others may eliminate their pain-related or anxiety-related complaints completely. Understanding more clearly the reasons for such variance is considered important in that such understanding may encourage the development of techniques that elicit greater biofeedback efficacy rates.

This research study was an attempt to determine some of the factors that may help contribute to a successful biofeedback program. Specifically examined were interactional effects between levels of biofeedback confidence and measures …

An Analysis Of The Relationship Between Nurturing Spousal Friendship And Marital Quality, Cherryl Anne Galley

One or both spouses were members of a Lutheran or a Seventh-day Adventist church in the Columbus, Ohio, area. The sample consisted of 176 married individuals who volunteered to participate anonymously in the research project. A total of …

A Descriptive Case Study Of Teacher Study Groups And Teachers' Perceptions Of The Impact Of Study Groups On Professional Growth, Rita Henriquez-Roark

Dissertations

A Cross-Cultural Study Of Moral Developmental Theory: The Influence Of Collectivism On Moral Reasoning Of Asian Students And Caucasian American Students, Chang-Ho Clyde Ji Jan 1995

A Cross-Cultural Study Of Moral Developmental Theory: The Influence Of Collectivism On Moral Reasoning Of Asian Students And Caucasian American Students, Chang-Ho Clyde Ji

Dissertations

Problem Statement. Lawrence Kohlberg's stage model of moral development has attracted agreat deal of attention from educators and psychologists. Not surprisingly, his work has also inspired considerable criticism and revisionism. A number of authors have argued that Kohlberg's theory does not incorporate the collectivistic moral reasoning that emphasizes human relationships among individuals, families, the community, and society in general.

Methodology. Analyses of variance, t-test, correlational analyses, and regression analyses were performed to investigate the relationship between ethnicity, moral reasoning, and collectivism using the Defining Issues Test (DIT) and the Individualism-Collectivism (INDCOL) Scale. These scales were administered to 179 Asian students …

Achievement was assessed by use of the Wide Range Achievement Test, third revision. Ability was measured with the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children, third revision. …
