The Literary Structure Of The Genesis Creation Story, Jacques Doukhan Jan 1978

The Literary Structure Of The Genesis Creation Story, Jacques Doukhan

Dissertations

Exegetical research on Gen 1 has been characterized since the 18th century essentially by a diachronic concern. Thus the Documentary hypothesis and the so-called Tatbericht-Wortbericht theory have been the two main starting points of any relevant scholarly study of this text. Recently, under the influence of contemporary literary studies, attention has been drawn to the validity of the synchronic approach, and more and more scholars have thus become aware of the importance of the liteary structure of this text. The latter has been dissociated from the thematic distribution of motifs; this tension has been explained in terms of different sources, …

Psycho-Social Factors Influencing The Learning Of A Second Or A Foreign Language, Dora Mae Rodgers Jan 1978

Psycho-Social Factors Influencing The Learning Of A Second Or A Foreign Language, Dora Mae Rodgers

Dissertations

Problem. With bilingualism now a world-wide phenomenon, language has become a powerful force for unity both at home and abroad. This, along with increased immigration, has emphasized the need for the study of second or foreign languages. In the United States, bilingualism and the learning of English as a second language are outstanding educational problems. Psycho-socio-cultural factors, attitudes, and motivation affect second language learning perhaps even more than age, aptitude, or methodology. The second language teacher must be aware of the existence and importance of these factors and their inherent problems. This study sought to classify and rate the importance …

A Survey Of Children's Analogical Abilities For Ages 2-15, Denyse Claire Dubrucq

Dissertations

ProbIems - The problems are three: What are children’s analogical abilities? How do they vary with age and sex? And, how do they relate one to another? These interrelated problems cannot be separately studied. Procedures - An instrument of seven activities was developed and presented in individual tape recorded interviews of twenty to thirty minute duration to 140 children. Ten children of each age from two through fifteen years were interviewed. To randomize the sample, only those children having birthdays during the month of the interview were interviewed. This procedure gave agespecificity for data analysis. The tapes were transcribed onto …

Albert Bandura And Ellen G. White: A Comparative Study Of Their Concepts Of Behavior Modification Through Modeling, Miriam S. Tumangday

Dissertations

Problem. One of the major concerns in education today is the improvement of behavior. Over the years various strategies have been proposed to modify human conduct. A careful review of these theories shows many similarities and divergences. Albert Bandura and Ellen G. White, two proponents from different eras and with widely disparate cultural and intellectual heritage, have strongly recommended modeling or example as the major factor in shaping human behavior. The present study sought to determine what, if any, similarities or differences exist in their modeling concepts.

Procedure. This investigation is a descriptive analytical study concerned with concepts …

Factors Important To The Vocational Development Of Women Police Officers, Carol Ann Martin Jan 1977

Factors Important To The Vocational Development Of Women Police Officers, Carol Ann Martin

Dissertations

Problem

The contributions policewomen have made in the relatively short period of their existence have led many police departments to regard women as an indispensable part of the American police force. During the last nine years a large variety of opportunities have become available to women police officers. Women have been added as sworn police officers not only in the small departments but in large departments and federal agencies as well. For the female interested in becoming a policewoman, as far as the administrator concerned with staffing his department with qualified females, there is a paucity of information available on …

Self-Concept Patterns Of Inadequate And Adequate Adult Readers, Anna Homenchuk Klimes Jan 1977

Self-Concept Patterns Of Inadequate And Adequate Adult Readers, Anna Homenchuk Klimes

Dissertations

Problem

Many of the difficulties which people experience are to a large extent the consequences of faulty perception of themselves. Academic success or failure appears to be deeply rooted in the person’s self-concept. The purpose of the study was to analyze the components of self-concept of inadequate and adequate adult readers to determine what patterns of self-concept emerge in various groups. Inadequate and adequate readers were grouped according to sex, race, age, and type of educational institution.

Method

The Tennessee Self Concept Scale was selected for the study. Measuring positive self-concept, it is composed of five self-concept components—physical, moral-ethical, personal, …
