Identifying Application And Traffic Patterns Contributing To Microbursts And Congestion In Data Center Networks, Saravanan Sampathkumar, Ajay Modi, Sandeep Sreerangam, Umamaheswararao Karyampudi, Ashish Singh
Defensive Publications Series
Microbursts are traffic events that can cause severe performance degradation in a network. With the advent of modern big data applications, microburst events are not uncommon in a data center. Rather than attempting superficial ad-hoc solutions, such as providing large buffer switches/routers, under provisioning bandwidth, etc., this proposal provides a technique to identify an offending application causing a microburst based on queue-level thresholds. Once identified, appropriate remedial action(s) (e.g., Quality of Service (QoS) actions, security actions, etc.) can be performed by a network administrator.

Scheduling Policy For Burst Multithreading, N/A
Scheduling Policy For Burst Multithreading, N/A
Defensive Publications Series
Modern computers have many CPU cores, but unless the problem to be solved is highly parallel, these CPU cores cannot be used efficiently: some cores are often left sitting idle while the others perform the bulk of the computation. Even for highly parallel problems, for small procedures, the overhead of requesting a thread to receive the processing request and begin execution is comparable to the time of execution thus resulting in little to no benefits from parallel execution. This disclosure describes techniques to improve the efficiency of communications between threads by reducing overhead. Per the techniques, the runnable threads of …

A Failure Predictive Algorithm Using Sequence Of Event Codes With A Deep Learning Model (Lstm), Hp Inc
Defensive Publications Series
We are building a failure prediction algorithm with sequences of event code data from devices
using a deep learning model called LSTM (Long Short‐Term Memory). LSTM models are widely
used to predict the sequence of words in word embedding technique. The principle idea of this
algorithm is very similar to next word prediction in your cell phone when you are sending
messages. The algorithm has the ability to predict the event codes leading up to the failure and
resulting time of the failure. The algorithm is fed a list of the last five event codes on the specific
device and …
Cost Saving By Reducing One Of The Multiplexers Required To Enable Docked Pre-Boot External Display Support, Hp Inc
Defensive Publications Series
Some pre-boot features only work with UMA graphics today on Windows based system. Displays on
docks may be driven by either the UMA or Discrete Graphics. In order to support pre-boot features
on displays attached through the dock, platforms with discrete GPU will need to switch to UMA
graphics during pre-boot. A possible mechanism for this switch is using display multiplexers. We
propose a method that reduces the number of required multiplexers, saving cost and board space.
Easy Plug-In Ink Collector Module With Magnets For Textile Large Format Printer, Hp Inc
Easy Plug-In Ink Collector Module With Magnets For Textile Large Format Printer, Hp Inc
Defensive Publications Series
In our large format printers, an ink collector accessory is used to enable the possibility of printing onto
porous substrates (textiles for example). Nowadays the set‐up process consists on placing some ink
collector modules on top of the print‐platen of the printer. To secure those ink collector modules, the
user must manually rotate up to 18 latches, which can be quite annoying and time‐consuming for
him/her. In addition to that, there is a failure mode on the field related to a misuse of those latches that
can result in broken parts, and therefore, in a service intervention to repair the …

High Capacity Ink Collector For Textile Printing On Porous Medias Based On Sloping Plates, Hp Inc
Defensive Publications Series
Textile printing, and specifically digital textile printing is becoming more important in the industry
the last years mostly because of the improvement in the versatility, customization and time
reduction between first designs and the introduction to the market. In some application (e.g. dye
sublimation) the workflow requires to print in some paper media and transfer the ink to the textiles
by means of a calender (external machine). On the other hand, in some other applications, direct
printing ("Direct To Fabric" or DTF) on the textile media is possible (e.g. fashion, decor, some soft
signage). In some of these DTF applications …

Data Compression Using Pre-Generated Dictionaries, Simon Cooke
Data Compression Using Pre-Generated Dictionaries, Simon Cooke
Defensive Publications Series
A file is compressed by replacing its characters by codes that are dependent on the statistics of the characters. The character-to-code table, known as the dictionary, is typically incorporated into the compressed file. Popular compression schemes reach theoretical compression limit only asymptotically. Small files or files without much intra-file redundancy, either compress poorly or not at all. This disclosure describes techniques that achieve superior compression, even for small files or files without much intra-file redundancy, by independently maintaining the dictionary at the transmitting and receiving ends of a file transmission, such that the dictionary does not need to be incorporated …
