This disclosure describes wearable devices, e.g., augmented reality glasses, with built-in projectors and/or LED displays that enable a user to specify their privacy preference and prevent image capture by other devices that are proximate to the user. The projectors, e.g., diffractive optical element (DOE) projectors are used to emit coded light that encodes a pattern that signals the user’s privacy preferences. Further, dithering projectors can be used to corrupt or limit the imaging area of a camera that is proximate to the user blanketing the wearer’s face with projected light. A wearer of glasses as described herein can switch between …
Warm Shifting To Reduce Drop Quality Degradation, Hp Inc
Warm Shifting To Reduce Drop Quality Degradation, Hp Inc
Defensive Publications Series
In some high‐speed print modes, it has been found that a warming pulse applied to a nozzle can have detrimental effects
on drop qualities ejected from that nozzle on subsequent firing. Simple logic is described which can shift a warming pulse from
being applied to a first nozzle to a neighboring second nozzle, thus preventing the detrimental effects on drop quality on drops
ejected from the first nozzle on subsequent firing. This logic requires minimal die area (low‐cost) and can operate autonomously so
that no integration with print system data path is required.

Dynamic And Heuristic Method For Printing And Scanning Warm-Up Calculations, Hp Inc
Dynamic And Heuristic Method For Printing And Scanning Warm-Up Calculations, Hp Inc
Defensive Publications Series
Current Large Format Printers have fixed warm‐up periods for the printing and scanning
systems when measuring a test chart to profile a printer and when doing calibrations (color,
printhead alignment, media alignment). For instance, the chart we currently use for profile
measurements have some patches that are only used to warm‐up the printing system.
Similarly, we warm‐up the embedded spectrophotometer before taking measures. The length
of the printing warm‐up patches and the time we turn‐on the spectrophotometer is fixed and
based on a previous experience and/or knowledge. However, Printers and Scanners are
dynamic systems that have printing and scanning warm‐up …

Partial Mapping Of Abstract Rich Ui Model, Nicolas Roard, John Hoford
Partial Mapping Of Abstract Rich Ui Model, Nicolas Roard, John Hoford
Defensive Publications Series
Visual UI editors generally have certain inflexibilities. For example, if a UI model is used to directly generate compilable code, a developer cannot modify the UI from the generated code. Further, tight coupling that exists between the UI model and the UI elements can make cross-platform development and reactive programming difficult, and can result in limited expressivity. This disclosure describes a rich, abstract, declarative UI model that encompasses layout, navigation, animation, and static visuals. The declarative UI techniques and partial scene mapping described herein can reduce developer workload and enable the building of two-way tooling, cross-platform development, gradual prototype-to-application evolution, …

Techniques are described herein for using different constraints and electing a leader based on those constraints. This may help to fairly distribute services among different leader-capable nodes. The constraints may include resources such as Central Processing Units (CPUs), memory, bandwidth, network forwarding resources, etc. For example, compute-intensive applications may require more CPU resources, whereas some applications (e.g., logging) may require more memory. The constraint may also be a combination of multiple resources, such as a log collector analysis service.
Context-Aware Message Delivery With Sender-Specified Priority, Felix Weissenberger, Victor Carbune
Context-Aware Message Delivery With Sender-Specified Priority, Felix Weissenberger, Victor Carbune
Defensive Publications Series
Solutions to manage incoming messages such as email, chat, etc. put the burden on the message recipient. In the absence of cues from the message sender about the urgency and/or importance, the recipient cannot determine whether a message requires immediate attention without reading the message first. As a result, many users hesitate to adopt solutions that defer message delivery or notification out of a fear of missing an urgent message that requires prompt action. This disclosure describes techniques to provide message senders capabilities to augment sent messages by specifying additional information, such as priority and contextual delivery parameters. Recipient applications …
Spatially Separating Participant Audio In A Conference Call, Jakob Zwiener, Marcos Calvo Lance, Jakub Kriz
Spatially Separating Participant Audio In A Conference Call, Jakob Zwiener, Marcos Calvo Lance, Jakub Kriz
Defensive Publications Series
The audio signal transmitted by the far end of a conference call or video conference is typically received at the near end as a composite signal that is the sum of the audio signals of the far-end participants. Far-end participants are therefore not spatially separable at the near end. This prevents near-end participants from using the natural focusing abilities of the brain (cocktail party effect) to focus on the speech of particular far-end participants. This disclosure describes techniques, e.g., per-microphone audio channels, speech diarization, etc., that distinguish far-end participants such that their audio is spatially separated at the near end.

Cloud-Based Virtual Memory System In Which Memory Pages Are Offloaded To Cloud Storage, Robert Benea, Patrik Torstensson, Rajeev Kumar
Defensive Publications Series
This publication describes systems and techniques to implement virtual memory to swap memory regions, such as memory pages, between a resource-constrained electronic device and cloud storage. Many “always-connected” or internet of things (IoT) devices are resource constrained such that dynamic random-access memory (DRAM) and flash memory are significantly limited. Excessive write operations can also reduce a usable lifetime of the flash memory. For cloud-based virtual memory, pages corresponding to working sets of more important applications are maintained in DRAM at the device. In contrast, a virtual memory system moves memory pages that are used less frequently based on some metric …

Fly-Eye Structures For Increasing Microled Light Extraction, Anonymous
Defensive Publications Series
This disclosure describes fly-eye nanostructures for increasing light extractions from semiconductor layers of micro light emitting diodes (microLEDs). Disposing a fly-eye nanostructure layer on a semiconductor layer having a high refractive index increases the percentage of light that escapes an air-to-semiconductor interface when the semiconductor layer has a high refractive index. As a result, the efficacy of light emitting semiconductors is improved. From a plan view, the fly-eye nanostructures include raised structures that may appear similar to brain structures, a hedge maze, or a fingerprint. The raised structures may appear closely-packed, random, and sinuous.
