Search engines and virtual assistants receive a large number of queries, and also report a large number of issues such as user queries that didn’t work, triggered the wrong features, or were not understood due to speech recognition errors, etc. This disclosure presents techniques that cluster similar issues, identify issues with the largest impact, and identify the root cause of an issue. Laptop keyboard designs typically include a keyboard module that utilizes a stainless steel feature plate to support the keys and to mount the keyboard module to the laptop. This disclosure describes a laptop enclosure with an integrated keyboard feature plate. Other elements of keyboard assembly such as keyboard keys and membrane are top loaded into the laptop enclosure. A keyboard webbing is laminated to the enclosure to complete the assembly. By eliminating the use of a separate feature plate, thinner and lighter laptop designs are enabled.

Described are multi-alloy metal products formed by a continuous casting system, as well as methods of continuously casting multi-alloy metal products. The disclosed multi-alloy metal product includes a plurality of layers of metallurgically bonded together metal alloys. The layers can be distributed along the thickness of the metal product or along the width of the metal product. The disclosed continuous casting system includes a plurality of injectors configured to simultaneously inject a plurality of metal alloys into a casting cavity to form the multi-alloy metal product.

Effective operation of a voice-activated virtual assistant requires accurate speech recognition. Manual determination of the accuracy of machine-generated speech transcriptions requires involvement of third parties to evaluate transcriptions of a user’s speech. Automated accuracy evaluation approaches that use machine-generated speech as input and determine quality of transcription have limited effectiveness since the machine-generated speech is a poor proxy for real-world user speech, e.g., volume of input, microphone and room characteristics, pronunciations, etc. This disclosure describes obtaining user confirmation of the transcription of a small subset user queries as performed by a virtual assistant or other applications that accept speech input. …

The techniques track infrared beacons by processing video footage captured by preexisting or newly installed indoor surveillance cameras. A mobile device configured to operate within a wireless communication network includes a Maximum Transmit Power Level (MTPL) controller. In order to meet specific absorption rate (SAR) limit requirements during simultaneous transmissions or during a dual connection mode, the mobile device employs a compact look-up table containing MTPL values and offset values. A system for detecting monetization abuse by channels of content sharing networks is disclosed. The proposed system uses machine learning methods to generate a predictive model capable of being applied to channels to determine a likelihood that the channel is engaged in monetization abuse. Specifically, the proposed system may train a machine learning classifier using a plurality of training videos. The training may be based on generating clusters of videos and identifying which clusters are risky. While speech is an important input mechanism used in many products, interpretation of user speech is challenging when the user input is ambiguous, e.g., due to the presence of punctuation or commands, as opposed to only verbatim text. This disclosure describes the utilization of a combination of speech analysis and gesture recognition to automatically disambiguate between verbatim text input (dictation) and commands. User provided speech and gestures are analyzed and used for interpretation of the spoken input, without the user having to switch between text entry and command entry modes.

A multimodal user equipment (UE) monitors various operational conditions indicative of reduced reliance on multimodal capabilities, such as a deactivated display, an immobile UE, low data consumption by background software applications, or a low battery level, and selectively enters a reduced multimodal mode in which the frequency at which measurement operations are performed for various supported radio access technologies (RATs) or radio frequencies is reduced. This results in a reduction in the amount of power and processing bandwidth that otherwise would be consumed if performing these measurement operations at their normal rates.

In a 5G System (5GS), the network initiates and controls the authentication method, meaning that the network determines whether the user equipment (UE) and the network use EAP-based NAS authentication or 5G AKA-based NAS authentication for the mutual authentication of the UE and the network. The specification for 5GS presumes that in a 5G standalone case, the UE supports both EAP-based NAS authentication and 5G AKA-based NAS authentication. This publication describes apparatuses, methods, and techniques for performing Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) shadow matching for user equipment (e.g., smartphones) with varied carrying positions, such as in a user’s hand, pocket, purse, backpack, and so forth. To do so, the smartphone utilizes an Urban Canyon Positioning Algorithm to find line-of-sight (LOS) signals of satellites of the GNSS. This disclosure describes power-efficient ultrasonic techniques for proximity detection and device wake-up from sleep mode. In sleep mode, the host application processor, e.g., the main device processor, is inactive. A low-power embedded controller remains on during sleep mode and generates an ultrasonic waveform that is amplified by a low-power speaker driver that also remains on during sleep mode.
