Advanced Headset Tracking For Optimized User Experience With Directional Audio, Bjorn Winsvold, Marcus Widmer, Asbjorn Therkelsen
Defensive Publications Series
A solution is provided that correctly positions a sound source for a headset user in a video call, by first finding the orientation of the head using short ultrasonic bursts and finding the difference in time-of-flight using one microphone at each ear. This head orientation, combined with the location of the participants on the screen, is then used in the binaural processing to render the sound source position correctly.

Pim Flooding Mechanism And Source Discovery (Pfm-Sd) Extension To Avoid Flood Between Multi Home Peer, Mankamana Mishra, Ali Sajassi, Ijsbrand Wijnands, Jayashree Subramanian, Anuj Budhiraja
Defensive Publications Series
Techniques are provided to support an extension to PFM-SD that avoids multicast traffic flooding across multi-home provide edge nodes, and maintains a faster convergence capability provided by multi-homing. These techniques allow a last hop router to create two trees, and provides a framework to ensure that Ethernet Segment failure has minimum traffic close for a receiver. In addition, these techniques involve a mechanism to avoid traffic flood over a core network between peers.

Augmenting Navigational Guidance By Incorporating Local Regulations In Effect, Victor Carbune, Matthew Sharifi
Defensive Publications Series
Users often use map applications to get directions to travel from one location to another. Sometimes, temporary local guidance from public authorities that is in effect at the time of travel may impact availability and use of specific transportation modes. Currently, users must already know of such short or long term guidance from local authorities or must seek it separately because it is typically not available within the map application that provides travel directions. This disclosure describes techniques to provide travel directions with routing options and optimization that are based on criteria other than distance and travel time. Such additional …

Iot Oam Connectivity Model - End-To-End Application Layer Relay Ping For Connectivity Check, Nagendra Kumar Nainar, Carlos M. Pignataro, Akram Sheriff
Defensive Publications Series
Methods are provided that allow for detecting the connectivity between an Internet-of-Things application (IoT-App) and a device at the application layer. In one method, an IoT gateway (IoT-GW) acts as a proxy that triggers a Request message to the device upon receiving a proxy request from the IoT-App with relevant details such as correlation identifier (ID) that can be used to correlate the response to the request. In another method, local statistics cached by the IoT-GW are leveraged for each device.

Enabling An Energy-Saving Mode On A Mobile Device After An Unexpected Charging Interruption, Rachel Hausmann, Collin Irwin
Defensive Publications Series
This publication describes methods of enabling an energy-saving mode on a mobile device after an unexpected charging interruption. The power manager application implemented on the mobile device uses sensor data from sensors on the device and/or power quality data to determine if the charging interruption was expected. If the sensor data and/or power quality data indicates that the charging interruption was unexpected, the power manager application may automatically enable an energy-saving mode on the mobile device to conserve battery life. The user may also receive a notification from the mobile device that the energy-saver mode was enabled.

Sandboxing Files Downloaded Via A Web Browser, Santhosh Kumar Edukulla
Sandboxing Files Downloaded Via A Web Browser, Santhosh Kumar Edukulla
Defensive Publications Series
When browsing the web, users often download various types of files that are saved directly to the user’s device. Such files can potentially contain malware or trigger the download of malicious software when opened, thus making users vulnerable to cyberattacks. Typical web browsers scan downloaded files for malware. However, such scans cannot detect malware in certain circumstances, e.g., new malware for which the signature is not known, large file size of the download, etc. This disclosure describes a sandbox environment for isolating files downloaded during web browsing and scanning such files for malware prior to being transferred to the device …
Mechanism To Protect Field Area Networks From Eapol Attack, Yajun Xia, Lele Zhang, Chuanwei Li, Li Zhao
Mechanism To Protect Field Area Networks From Eapol Attack, Yajun Xia, Lele Zhang, Chuanwei Li, Li Zhao
Defensive Publications Series
A mechanism is proposed to protect mesh networks from Extensible Authentication Protocol over Local Area Network (EAPOL) attacks in following ways. A Field Network Director (FND) synchronizes a whitelist table to a mesh node periodically, allowing to the mesh node to filter EAPOL messages based on the whitelist table. Further, a supplicant can sign EAPOL messages with its private key, and then a relay node can filter the EAPOL messages base on the signature.

Efficient Algorithm For Generating Order Packing Recommendations, Jonathan Yue Shun Poon, Guorui Su
Efficient Algorithm For Generating Order Packing Recommendations, Jonathan Yue Shun Poon, Guorui Su
Defensive Publications Series
Packing an order in the most appropriately sized boxes can improve customer experience, reduce costs, and alleviate stress for the operator that packs the items into the boxes. Products to determine optimal packaging typically consider permutations of packing options and select one that likely minimizes total costs while preventing the likelihood of product damage. However, such products use algorithms where the runtime increases exponentially with the addition of a box or an item in the input, thus making them impractical for orders that require multiple boxes and items. Moreover, such products typically do not take merchant and product variations and …

Common Encryption/ Decryption Specification, Naman Bansal, Pankaj Taneja
Defensive Publications Series
The invention relates to using a common specification to encrypt and decrypt EMV tags. Currently, several EMV tags are not included and hence, payment gateways need to provide service based on different merchants. Hence, a common specification solves the problem of the payment gateways re-programming according to the needs to different merchants. Each merchant can program respective POS devices according to the common specification, thus reducing the complexity and burden on the payment gateways.
