Recommendation System For Hiding Subtitles, Jan Ondras, Svein Gunnar Pettersen Feb 2021

Recommendation System For Hiding Subtitles, Jan Ondras, Svein Gunnar Pettersen

Defensive Publications Series

Some videoconferencing/collaboration devices provide subtitles to users on-screen during meetings. However, when subtitles are permanently displayed on a videoconferencing device and a user is not reading/following the subtitles, the subtitles might become annoying to the user. As a result, the user is likely to be visually distracted. This proposal provides techniques to prevent users from being distracted by permanently displayed subtitles during videoconferences when users are not reading/following the subtitles. In particular, a system is presented herein that provides for the ability to either automatically hide videoconferencing subtitles when a system detects that a user is not reading/following the subtitles …

Hybrid and augmented workflows involving predictions or insights produced by automation tools that are handed over to human operators are known to cause cognitive overload. Generally, cognitive overload occurs when an automated system tries to push too much information to a human operator. When such a push of information is sustained over time, cognitive overload leads to what is known as "alert fatigue" whereby insights of an automated system are not utilized, which can lead to poor adoption. One type of cognitive overload specific to cognitive systems includes situations in which predictions/insights are not necessarily numerous but rather too complex …

Peer Learning On The Edge In Vehicles, Hanumant Prasad R. Singh

Defensive Publications Series

A vehicle head unit may train a surround-view (SV) detection module to rectify distortions in fish-eye camera images of the surroundings of a vehicle by comparing the object (e.g., traffic signs, lane markings, etc.) detection results of the SV detection module with those of an advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) detection module (e.g., while the SV detection module and the ADAS detection module are detecting the same objects of the same scenery). The vehicle head unit may receive the object detection results of the ADAS detection module by using one or more communication processes. For example, the vehicle head unit …

Vertical Stacked Field Effect Transistor, Benjamin Vincent, Joseph Ervin Feb 2021

Vertical Stacked Field Effect Transistor, Benjamin Vincent, Joseph Ervin

Defensive Publications Series

The move from planar to FinFET technology is expected to continue in the future. Current options include Nanosheet, Forksheet and Vertical FET architectures. While vertical FET is attractive, the footprint is currently too large. Improvement of the footprint of vertical FETs can be achieved if the vertical transistors can be stacked on top of each other with an easy integration path.

The present disclosure relates to an integration solution allowing two vertical FET transistors to be stacked on top of each other using a monolithic process integration flow.

Zigzag Double Forksheet Field Effect Transistor Architecture, Benjamin Vincent Feb 2021

Zigzag Double Forksheet Field Effect Transistor Architecture, Benjamin Vincent

Defensive Publications Series

Logic Forksheet is considered to be the evolution of FinFET technology after nanosheet architecture. The Forksheet architecture uses a forksheet gate that crosses multiple stacked nanosheets. Source/drain epitaxy is usually grown next to the gates requiring gate spacer formation, which causes potentially high parasitic capacitance between gate and source/drain. One approach is to move source/drain epitaxy also in a forksheet geometry on the opposite side of the gate to avoid spacer formation and reduce parasitic capacitance. This approach, however, is not scalable with a classical design due to an isotropic etch process in the process flow. The solution proposed below …

Smooth Transitioning Between Augmented And Virtual Reality, Chris Ross Jan 2021

Smooth Transitioning Between Augmented And Virtual Reality, Chris Ross

Defensive Publications Series

This disclosure describes techniques that enable a user to start in an augmented reality (AR) environment (where virtual objects can be observed in their physical surroundings) and move to a virtual reality (VR) environment (where virtual objects alone can be examined from various perspectives in detail or from a distance). The user can make the reverse VR-to-AR journey as well. The AR↔VR transitioning and the examination of objects from various perspectives is made possible by smooth transformations of scale and of rotation between the coordinates of the world (e.g., the scene) and the object.

Capacity Control Plan For Monitoring Part Quality In A Production Environment Of Thousand's Parts Jobs, Hp Inc Jan 2021

Capacity Control Plan For Monitoring Part Quality In A Production Environment Of Thousand's Parts Jobs, Hp Inc

Defensive Publications Series

Cosmetic and some Consumer Goods market is a great opportunity for 3D Printing technologies. One of the first use cases which is being developed is the print of mascara brushes. This application requires printing jobs including thousands of parts in order to allow Multi Jet Fusion technology to be a competitive solution in terms of Total Cost of Ownership (TCO). Also, in order to enable a better TCO it is required that the printed parts have a high yield, so the minimum percentage possible of parts are discarded by the customer.

In order to achieve this, it is required a …

Automatic Contextual Adjustment To Speech Recognition To Reduce Query Misrecognition, Ágoston Weisz Jan 2021

Automatic Contextual Adjustment To Speech Recognition To Reduce Query Misrecognition, Ágoston Weisz

Defensive Publications Series

Users interact with virtual assistants by issuing voice queries. Prior to processing, the user’s voice query is converted to text using automatic speech recognition (ASR). For a variety of reasons, ASR can result in errors such that the converted text query does not match the original voice query at least partially. Query misrecognition disrupts the flow of interaction between the user and the virtual assistant, requiring users to reissue the voice query multiple times or enter it using an alternate input mechanism. This disclosure describes techniques to predict misrecognized voice queries and avoid the same misrecognition on the subsequent query …
