Reject Eps-Fb And Rat-Fb Call At Mobile Terminal, Kuan-Wei Chen, Roy Lin
Defensive Publications Series
Techniques are disclosed that allow a user or upper-layer application running on a user equipment operating on a 5G network to ignore or reject an incoming call. This allows a user to avoid the degraded performance resulting from the fallback procedure that would otherwise terminate the 5G data connection in favor of a lower-capability network to complete the incoming call. Based on a command transmitted with the incoming call, the technique allows a user equipment to initiate a radio resource control (RRC) re-establishment procedure to recover 5G service. Alternatively, in the event the user equipment is connected to a network …

Base-116 Encoding, David Schneider
Base-116 Encoding, David Schneider
Defensive Publications Series
Base-64 encoding is a binary-to-text encoding scheme that is popular in HTML applications since it encodes to relatively safe characters (A-Z, a-z, 0-9, +, /) that can survive all sorts of transmission media. However, it is quite inefficient, expanding every 3 bytes of input data to 4 characters of output data, an expansion in data size of 33%. This disclosure describes base-116 encoding, which, by encoding every 6 bytes of input data to 7 characters of output data, expands the input by only 16.67%. Base-116 encoding is very efficient in its use of codepoint space, and it can be efficiently …

Metal Jet is a binder jetting additive manufacturing technology. The process starts by filling the print
bucket (“build unit” from now on) with metal powder. Then, the build unit is inserted in the printer, where
the parts are formed by selectively gluing powder particles together employing a binding agent. After
that, the build job must go through a curing process where the binder solvents are evaporated. Finally,
the job is cooled, and the parts can be extracted and cleaned before going to a sintering oven. This last
process is called “de-caking” and it consists of removing the loose powder from …

End-To-End Encrypted Video With Adaptive Bit Rates, Anonymous
End-To-End Encrypted Video With Adaptive Bit Rates, Anonymous
Defensive Publications Series
Server-side adaptive bit rate (ABR) encoding is a technique used to match video bandwidth to a user’s channel bandwidth. In ABR, an uploader streams in the video to a server at a high quality, while the downloader streams from the server the highest quality compatible with its bandwidth. As currently practiced, ABR is incompatible with end-to-end encryption since the server needs to decrypt the uploaded video to generate multiple lower bandwidth versions of the video.
This disclosure describes techniques for end-to-end encryption of video while making the video available to a receiver at multiple bit rates. The sender uploads to …

Internet-of-Things (IoT) environments often have very constrained edge devices, with limited memory, storage, and compute power. Additionally, these environments can be highly distributed. In many cases, edge devices/applications need to access content repeatedly from a cloud service or higher-tiered application. Because device and network connections can become constrained, it is desirable to cache objects, files, etc. local to the edge devices. However, caching systems and cache replacement algorithms may not consider the criticality or requirements of one application over another. Techniques presented herein provide for adapting well-known caching mechanisms for utilization within environments involving constrained networks. Further, intent-based classification techniques …
